Ronaldo, Griezmann & 20 World Cup 2018 stars who could transfer this summer

Antoine Griezmann has been a wanted man for at least the past 18 months. Manchester United have been long-standing suitors, with the Old Trafford club favourites to finally land the Atletico Madrid forward this summer.

A switch to the Premier League looked likely last year though failed to materialise, while Barcelona and Real Madrid have now both entered the race for his signature.

The Frenchman insists his transfer plans will be revealed in the near future, but a move, if there is to be one, will happen following the World Cup in Russia.

Contract talks between Toby Alderweireld and Tottenham are still ongoing, with the two parties so far unable to agree on the situation at hand.

The Belgian has been integral to Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs but was limited to just 12 Premier League starts last season because of an injury which subsequently saw him lose his place in the side to Davinson Sanchez. 

Now, as Alderweireld enters the final year of his deal at Tottenham, Manchester United looks a very possible destination for the defender. Spurs do have an option to extend the 29-year-old's contract, though in doing so they activate a £25 million ($33.5m/€28.5m) releasue clause in his contract.

Michy Batshuayi ended the 2017-18 on loan at Borussia Dortmund, scoring seven goals in 10 Bundesliga outings before an injury cut his campaign short. 

Now the Belgium forward has a question to answer;  does he stay at Stamford Bridge and attempt to start over, or will he leave the west London club permanently?

A number of Ligue 1 clubs have attempted to sign Batshuayi in the last year, but whether a return to Dortmund under new boss Lucien Favre is possible is yet to confirmed.

Having spent three years in Madrid while on loan at Atletico, and with his children still living in the Spanish capital, a return to spain with Real is naturally on the mind of Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Coutois. 

The Belgium shot-stopper has made no secret of his desire to return to the city in which he started a family, and with Real Madrid actively hunting a long-term No.1 to replace Keylor Navas between the sticks, the 26-year-old fits the bill. 

Courtois is into his final year of his five-year deal at the club, though talks are ongoing. 

The war between Lyon and Liverpool over Nabil Fekir is over.

A £60 million ($80m/€68m) deal to Anfield this summer looked a certainty for the 24-year-old this summer, but following an issue with the winger, highlighted in the player's medical, saw the deal collapse.

Fekir scored 18 Ligue 1 goals last season with eight assists to boot, plus another three strikes in the Europe League with Lyon, and could yet leave before the start of next season.

Loris Karius' Champions League final nightmare may have marked the end of his Liverpool career, leaving manager Jurgen Klopp with a problem between the sticks. Karius' Anfield future was questioned before his harrowing night in Kiev on May 26 as Roma's Alisson was identified as a potential replacement. 

The Brazil 'keeper is likely to play ahead of Manchester City's Ederson at the World Cup and his performances at club level have seen him become one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in Europe this summer.

Keylor Navas has helped Real Madrid to three consecutive Champions League trophies yet has faced continued speculation that an exit from the club is imminent.

David de Gea and Thibaut Courtois, both of whom have history with city rivals Atletico Madrid, are the favourites to take over at the Santiago Bernabeu, while Roma's Alisson Becker is also being looked at.

It leaves Navas' situation unclear, as the two years on the Costa Rica 'keeper's contract are unlikely to be played out. A move away from the Spanish capital depends on a number of factors, though it remains a strong possibility that he finds a new club this summer.

The transfer speculation surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo rumbles on. 

The Real Madrid star was promised a new deal at the Spanish club last season, an agreement which has failed to materialise. As such, Ronaldo has hinted that his time at the Champions League winners may be coming to an end. It's not quite panic stations for Florentino Perez and the Real chiefs, but they will be keen to secure the long-term future of the Portugal international before the situation escalates. 

Paris Saint-Germain have been mooted as a potential new home for Ronaldo, who scored 41 goals between La Liga and the Champions League last season.

Thiago joined Bayern Munich from Barcelona in 2013 and has gone on to claim the Bundesliga title in each of the five seasons he has been with the club. 

New Bayern boss Niko Kovac is still to fully evaluate his inherited squad at the Allianz Arena but could be willing to let Thiago leave this summer, according to reports. 

The Spain international has three years remaining on the deal he agreed in 2017, leading to the €70 million (£61.5m/$82m) valuation of the midfielder. Amongst those interested in signing Thiago are Barcelona, the club which the 27-year-old joined as a teenager and spent almost a decade representing.

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp mustered just four league appearances last season as Alphonse Areola retained his place between the sticks for almost the entirety of the 2017-18 campaign. 

Trapp, though, chosen by Germany boss Joachim Low for his World Cup squad, may well end up with former coach Unai Emery at Arsenal next season.

Emery will sign a long-term replacement for Petr Cech this summer and 27-year-old Trapp is of interest to the new Gunners manager.

Another Germany international fighting for his place at Paris Saint-Germain is Julian Draxler, who new manager Thomas Tuchel will be aware of from the pair's history in the Bundesliga.

Former Schalke and Wolfsburg forward Draxler may be presented with an opportunity to start afresh under his countryman, though a number of opportunities across Europe are open to the player should his talks with Tuchel not convince him of his future in Paris.

France international Thomas Lemar is the focus of interest for a number of European clubs. 

Arsenal were close to agreeing a move for the Monaco winger last summer but failed to complete the transfer on time, while Liverpool have also shown an interest in the 22-year-old.

Lemar has spent three full seasons at Monaco and a move this summer looks probable. Should he impress in Russia with Les Bleus then his stock will rise considerably and may force the situation to its conclusion.

Boca Juniors have priced Christian Pavon at $30 million (£22.4m/€25m) as a number of elite European clubs look to secure a move for the Argentina international. 

Arsenal remain interested in a transfer, as do Zenit, who previously made a bid to sign the 22-year-old, while Ligue 1 clubs Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco are also in the race.

Both Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are searching for a forward to lead their respective lines for the 2018-19 campaigns, and Gonzalo Higuain fits the bill for both. 

Juventus are also looking at their options in attack and are open to letting the Argentina international leave Turin should they secure the purchase of a replacement.

Hirving Lozano's debut season in Europe could hardly have proved more fruitful, with his 17 Eredivisie goals earning him the crown of PSV's top scorer.

The 22-year-old Mexico international is now a target of several Premier League clubs, with Everton amongst the potential suitors. The Toffees' new director of football, Marcel Brands, brought Chucky to the Netherlands last year and is keen to broker a deal to bring him to Goodison Park once the World Cup draws to a close.

"I am trying to remain concentrated," Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic said at the end of the 2017-18 Serie A season. "Every day I read something new about me."

The 23-year-old Serbia star has been of interest to Jose Mourinho and his Manchester United staff for some time and a move to Old Trafford after the World Cup looks likely. 

Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini will no longer be at United come the start of next season, and Mourinho sees Milinkovic-Savic as the man to fill the void.

Croatia midfielder Mateo Kovacic made just 10 Liga starts for Real Madrid last season, leading to comments from the player on his future.

"I believe I'll play more, whether in Real or somewhere else," he told reporters. "Now is the time for me to play. Offers? I am under contract with Real and I wish not to comment on other clubs."

Kovacic may yet remain at Real, though a number of Premier League clubs have made initial enquiries into a possible transfer.

South Korea captain Ki Sung-yueng is currently searching for a club, having left relegated Swansea City at the end of the 2017-18 Premier League campaign. 

West Ham and Everton both hold an interest in Ki and will pursue the matter once the World Cup comes to a close, while Serie A side AC Milan have also been mooted as the next club for the 29-year-old.

"To become a world-class player, I'll probably have to play in an even better team at club level," RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner said previously.

The Germany international's comments perked the ears of both Bayern Munich and Manchester United, both of whom hold heavy interest in the 22-year-old.

For now, Werner is focusing on his debut appearance at the World Cup, though a transfer may be his reward at the end of the finals in Russia.

Neymar's situation is a complicated one. 

Just a year after his record-breaking move to Paris Saint-Germain, the Brazilian is of genuine interest to Real Madrid as they look at potential options to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, should the Portuguese decide his future is away from the Spanish capital. 

So much depends on other outcomes inside the club, such as Ronaldo's potential exit, though PSG insist they do not want to let the Brazil star leave the club under any circumstances.
