1999 World Cup classic, 2007 golden touch, 2024 exploration with texture and the greatest USWNT kits - ranked

On the heels of U.S. Soccer's recent reveal of the 2025 national team kits, it's only right to take a trip down memory lane and look at some of the most iconic kits in USWNT history. U.S. Soccer took some risks with the 2025 fits, however the designs were a nod to the federation's history.

From 1999, when the USWNT wore all white and very little color, to 2023, when the kit was an entire art project gone wrong, there's been twists and turns in the USWNT kit design.

When most people think of the USWNT they will recall those from World Cups years - and most likely the jersey was a good match. Looking back, 2024 was elevated and simple, 1999 was classic and chic, and 2021 was respectable, but not entirely memorable.

INDIVISA takes a look at the greatest USWNT kits.

    102005 USA home kit

Many people won't remember this jersey, but every woman who wore it probably will. The biggest issue with this jersey is the seams. The fact that the design cups under the breast area like a bra is bizarre and not flattering. It's like wearing a sports bra that may or may not fit. While the blue and red accents throughout are nice, the seam and the mesh over the stomach area isn't flattering - for anyone.

    92011 USA home kit

The 2011 home kit for the USWNT is typically the top of most people's lists for least-favorite. The dark V-neck line that is so pronounced you can't look at anything else. The line down the entirety of the jersey is strange and is the only interesting - yet bizarre - thing about this kit. The jersey gives off chef vibes, with a very tailored and not swift and nor comfortable whatsoever.

    82007 USA away kit

You are either someone who likes gold kits, or doesn't. While this kit screams dominance and USWNT takeover, the gold is distracting and not flattering. Granted, it shouts "We will win" but something about the red and blue on gold is screaming Germany more than anything else. This was the USWNT's away kit for the 2007 World Cup and didn't bring them gold - rather bronze and an early exit in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

    72021 USA away kit

For the USWNT, 2021 was a year of building - and frustration. This jersey was funky and pushed the boundaries, but it felt disconnected. While the abstract design was a fun change, it didn't bring much evolution on the field for the USWNT. In July 2021, the USWNT were competing in the Olympics, and despite making it to the semifinals, fell short to rivalry Canada. This jersey gives off a puzzle that doesn't have any of its pieces together.

    62023 USA home kit

It's notable that 2023 was the first year since the 2016 Olympics that the USWNT didn't reach a semifinal match in a major tournament. So when the speckled, paint splattered jersey shows up, it screams that. This jersey was distracting all over. It was an unfinished painting, much like the USWNT's season. No surprise here, but this kit wasn't brought back out of the archives.

    52000 USA away kit

Classic, sleek, elegant and foundational. The 2000 home kit screams USWNT history. The all red, with blue mesh sides is about as American as it gets. What was different about this jersey was that it played with more color than the 1999 one, that was so freshly white and crisp. While the V-neck is now very much seen in training jerseys, the color blocking of the navy and red was profound and confident.

    42000 USA home kit

The all-white home kit from 2000 is what every young girl would wear - and try and be like Mia Hamm. It's so unapologetically classic. The white shorts get a bad rep, and with good reason, but when you look from a distance the all white is so clean. The white jersey is even cleaner, and well perceived with the all navy shorts. That combo will never go out of style.

    32021 USA home kit

The home kit from 2021 was miles above the away version, because it was kept simple. The stripes on the side of the jersey was a nice touch - and even cooler was that it was carried throughout the shorts as well. While this jersey didn't bring the USWNT much luck, it was way closer to paying respect to the team's history and sprucing it up with some accent details on the side.

    21999 home kit

Arguably the best of all-time, but for the sake of fashion evolution and the textures that have been advanced in kit making, this one is second-best. The prestigious 1999 home kit is the one most fans associate with the USWNT. Whether it's Brandi Chastain's penalty kick and ripping-off-of the jersey or just Hamm on posters everywhere, this is classic and true USWNT. The thin lines and pops of color on the exterior are delicate and tasteful, and the all-white throughout can't be touched.

    12024 home kit

2024 will be hard to top. Perhaps because of the journey the USWNT went on in this jersey, but also because of the design. The ribbed texture is advanced and cool, plus it looks completely comfortable and dry fit. The collar is a perfect pop of USA colors and it's complemented with the same design on the sleeves. Sure this kit would get incredibly dirty, but the fact that it paid tribute to the previous all-white look from the early 2000s was a nice touch.
