Huge value in opening day bet following Everton’s summer business

David Moyes has not managed to bolster his side as much as he’d hoped so far. This will be a concern for Toffees fans ahead of the new campaign.

Everton’s summer struggles

Although there’s still time to improve the situation, Everton have struggled to find new recruits in the past few months. They successfully signed Thierno Barry from Villarreal for a substantial fee, and permanently signed Carlos Alcaraz. Youngster Adam Aznou has also joined, as has backup goalkeeper Mark Travers. However, they are not players who could make a big difference.

Luckily for them, they haven’t lost too many important players either. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has moved on and was replaced by Barry, and some older players also left this summer. Arguably, they aren’t any stronger than they were at the end of their 2024/25 season.

Their match against Leeds United is only a couple of weeks away, and they appear weak. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could still join, which would be a great signing. Moreover, Tyler Dibling would be a very exciting recruit. However, these are only possibilities for now.

Based on the current situation and with only a few weeks until the transfer window closes, they may be worth backing against in the Premier League.

A difficult start for the Toffees

An opening game away at Elland Road is a difficult start for Moyes and his side, especially if they are not fully prepared. Leeds will be very confident after their strong season in the Championship, and have made some good signings recently. Daniel Farke will be eager for his team to start strongly.

On the surface, Moyes’ side don’t have the worst start. Their trip to Yorkshire is followed by games against Brighton & Hove Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Aston Villa. On a good day, they could get a result from all of them. However, are they currently in a position to do so?

They also tend to start seasons poorly. Everton have failed to win the Asian handicap line in the first three rounds of all of the past three league seasons. Their only partial success came with a half-win against Chelsea in the 2022/23 opener. They may need time to gain momentum this season, as well.

With an average xG of 1.17 per game in 2025/26, they haven’t created enough chances to score yet. They haven’t done too much to remedy that. They were quite strong defensively, but that isn’t always enough to win. Based on their opening fixtures, it’s certainly worth going against them as they face Brighton, Wolves, and Villa.

By May, they should’ve had enough time to sort things out. However, they need to get to work soon, as they don’t have too much time left to finish their transfer business.
