FC Gievenbeck Overview

Former Republic of Ireland international James McClean has parted company with hometown club Derry City after both parties agreed to cancel his contract with immediate effect. The 37-year-old wideman leaves Brandywell Stadium just nine months after returning from Wrexham following a protracted dispute that kept him sidelined since July.

Wrexham have been fined £75,000 ($99,800) by the EFL, with a third of it suspended, after naming Issa Kabore and Callum O'Hare in matchday squads when neither was eligible. The Championship club escaped a points deduction only because they lost the first game and O'Hare stayed on the bench in the second, and they are now looking to appoint a club secretary.

Alexandre Pato has been making surprising headlines at Northampton, as part of a consortium that has acquired a 70 per cent stake in the club, but ex-Cobblers boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has told GOAL there is “no new Wrexham” to be found in the English Football League. Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have enjoyed considerable success in North Wales.

Hugh Jackman joining Ryan Reynolds and Tom Brady in the Championship’s A-list stakeholder group will help to make the Football League even “more entertaining”, ex-Birmingham winger Jermaine Pennant has told GOAL. The Wolverine actor, who is good friends with the ownership team at Wrexham, has revealed that he is in talks with Norwich regarding potential investment opportunities.
