Ajax Cape Town release five players

Ajax Cape Town have announced the departures of players who were on loan at the club this past season.

The Urban Warriors have released a statement that Mamelodi Sundowns striker Yannick Zakri, defenders Rheece Evans and Siyanda Zwane, SuperSport United striker Fragrie Lakay as well as Orlando Pirates defender Tercious Malepe have all left the club.

As the club is preparing for the next season, Ajax's future remains in limbo with the case involving the Mother City and striker Tendai Ndoro yet to be decided.

Ajax could play in the in the National First Division should the Gauteng High Court rule that the decision to dock them points was lawful.

Polokwane City, Matsantsantsa and the now defunct Platinum Stars benefitted after the club was docked points to see them finish at the bottom of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) table last season thus demoting them to the NFD.

Resulting from the South African Football Association’s (Safa) and the PSL decision to dock Ajax seven points, Dikwena moved to the 15th spot and qualified for the play-offs.

However, they failed to survive as they were relegated to the lower division, while Black Leopards gained promotion to the top tier of South African football, and the players will now return to their parent clubs ahead of the new season.

Lakay, Zakri and Zwane joined the Ikamva-based club in January from United and the Brazilians respectively, featuring prominently and making a real impact for the club up until the final day of the 2017/18 season.

Bucs’ Malepe represented Ajax on 18 occasions during the course of the campaign having joined the Urban Warriors at the start of the season while Evans joined the club on an 18-month loan deal in January 2017 from the Chloorkop-base outfit.

Moreover, the club announced in the past few days that the judgement on their case will be announced on Monday, July 2 in Johannesburg.

“Ajax Cape Town would like to wish Fagrie Lakay, Yannick Zakri, Siyanda Zwane, Tercious Malepe and Rheece Evans all the best in their future endeavours,” said the club in the statement.

“The above mentioned players will see their respective loan deals at the club come to an end tomorrow, 30 June 2018,” continued the media release.

“Everyone at Ajax Cape Town would like to thank Fagrie, Yannick, Siyanda, Tercious and Rheece for their services to the club,” said Ajax.

“The club will be making further announcements regarding player movements next week,” concluded the statement.
