ISL 2018-19: NorthEast United's Augustine Okrah out for the season

NorthEast United FC’s Ghanaian midfielder Augustine Okrah might remain out of action for the rest of the season due to an injury he suffered in training during the international break, Goal has learnt.

Ahead of NorthEast United’s clash against Kerala Blasters on Friday, coach Eelco Schattorie confirmed that an overseas player of his side is injured and might get ruled out for the entire season.

Schattorie said, “We have one foreigner injured who might not play for the entire season but I will not name him now as it can be an advantage for the opponents.”

The 25-year-old midfielder is yet to start a game for Eelco’s side in the ISL this season. He came on as a substitute in four matches and played a total of 90 minutes.

Okrah started his professional football career at Ghanaian club Asante Kotoko in 2012 but was sent on loan to Liberty Professionals. He then moved to another Ghana-based side Bechem United where he scored 16 goals in nine matches. In 2014, he joined top-tier Swedish club BK Hacken on loan from Bechem. He joined NorthEast United from Sudanese side Al-Hilal FC.

It will be interesting to see if NorthEast United look for a replacement in the coming weeks. The Highlanders play six more matches before the ISL takes a break for the AFC Asian Cup 2019.
