Berekum Chelsea 3 Aduana Stars 2: Quaye's hat-trick down Fire Club in Bono derby

Berekum Chelsea
The Fire Club's ambition of lifting their second league title suffered a major setback following a defeat against the Blues on Saturday

Berekum Chelsea handed regional rivals Aduana Stars a painful 3-2 defeat in matchday 17 of the Ghana Premier League at the Golden City Park on Saturday.

A hat-trick from striker Alfred Okai Quaye was enough to end the visitors' incredible run in the top-flight and hand them a sixth defeat at the venue since 2009.

Chelsea had an incredible start to the game with poster boy Stephen Sarfo fluffing a glorious opportunity in the second minute but Quaye made amends a minute later, when he latched on to a pass from Seth Appiah Larbi, before directing his effort past onrushing goalkeeper Joseph Addo.

Aduana took control of possession, with Nathaniel Asamoah and Zakaria Mumuni coming close to finding the equaliser but they were denied by the hosts' goalkeeper.

On 30th minute, Mumuni found a breach in the hosts' defence and dazzled his way through two defenders, before perfectly slotting in the equaliser.

However, the home supporters protested that Aduana committed a foul in the build up to the equalizer, prompting an intervention from security operatives to calm the situation.

After the break, Chelsea continued to threaten Aduana but the latter's back-four were resolute.

On 63rd minute, Bright Agyei curled in a wonderful free-kick for the visitors but Chelsea made it 2-2 twelve minutes later through Quaye following a howler from goalkeeper Addo.

With the game heading to a stalemate, Quaye was brought down in the box in additional time by one of Aduana's defender and the former Rainbow FC striker completed his hat-trick by sending goalkeeper Addo to the wrong side.

Chelsea have moved three places up to fourth position with 25 points while Aduana still sit top of the log with 33 points ahead of Sunday's fixtures.
