Azam humbles Simba SC to retain Cecafa Kagame Cup title

Azam beat Tanzania rivals Simba SC 2-1 to retain Cecafa Kagame Cup title on Friday.

The champions sent a statement of intent when they knocked out record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia in the semi-finals. Shaban Ido rose above Simba defenders to nod home the opener in the 32nd minute to give Azam the lead.

Meddie Kagere brought Simba back into the game with an equalizer in the 62nd minute. The former Gor Mahia striker picked a nice pass inside Azam’s box to fire past the exposed keeper Razak Abalora.

But Agrey Moris restored Azam's one goal advantage just six minutes later through a well taken free-kick to hand the victors a second Cecafa title.

Azam lifted their maiden regional trophy two years ago after beating Gor Mahia in the final. Gor Mahia finished third after beating Jeshi La Kujenga Uchumi of Zanzibar.
