Croatia will now face the winner of the quarter-final clash between Netherlands and Argentina in the semi-finals on Tuesday. Brazil's World Cup drought extends a further four years.
Croatia are through to the World Cup semi-finals for the second tournament in a row courtesy of a 4-2 victory over Brazil on penalties after their quarter-final clash finished 1-1. Neymar looked to have put the Selecao on the path to the last four with a brilliant goal to break the deadlock in stoppage time in the first half of extra time. However, Bruno Petkovic equalised with a deflected effort to keep Croatia alive in the second half of extra time. Dominik Livakovic then performed his magic again to deny Rodrygo Silva from the penalty spot, while Zlatko Dalic's men were perfect piling the pressure on Marquinhos to score. The defender struck the post with a vital kick, sending Croatia through and Brazil home yet again at the quarter-final stage.

Gvardiol has to act in the middle to prevent Richarlison from latching on to the ball, but he steers it towards his own goal. The defender is bailed out by a sharp reaction save.
46' We're back under way in this World Cup quarter-final contest.
Tite will have slight concerns about his side's play in the final third. They've not been firing on all cylinders and need an injection of pace into their play in the middle of the park. He may have to alter the shape of his team to get the best out of Neymar and company in the final third because Croatia are comfortable at the moment.
It is goalless at the break in the World Cup quarter-final clash between Croatia and Brazil. Neither side has threatened to break the deadlock outside of a couple of half-chances for Brazil through Vinicius Junior and Neymar. Croatia have been resilient at the back and have prevented the Selecao from finding their rhythm. Zlatko Dalic will be pretty pleased with his team's effort in the first half.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: CROATIA 0-0 BRAZIL

37' Brazil are going to have to be patient today. Croatia are a resilient outift and will give nothing away in and around their box.
35' Juranovic is on his mettle at the back post to hammer the ball into touch away from Vinicius following a cross from Raphinha.
33' Brazil have not been able to get into full flow in the final third. It was expected from the Croatia defence, but Dalic's men have looked very good on the ball. It has been an impressive first half from the men in red and white.
M. Brozović

Croatia
31' Brozovic brings down Neymar with a late challenge and goes into the book.
30' OVER! Juranovic leads another surge upfield before Croatia work the ball to the left flank. Perisic cuts inside to shoot on his right foot, only to launch his effort over the bar.
29' Vinicius goes down under pressure from Brozovic, but the resulting free-kick from Neymar only finds Militao at the back post, who sees his cutback cleared.
28' Food for thought for fans of Croatia and Brazil with this stat. Since beating Germany 2-0 in the final in 2002, Brazil have lost each of their last five World Cup knockout stage games against European nations, including three quarter-final ties in that run (France in 2006, Netherlands in 2010 and Belgium in 2018).
26' Modric fails to find a team-mate with his cross into the box from the right flank before Neymar eases the pressure on the Brazil defence by winning a free-kick.

20' BLOCK! Vincius plays a sublime one-two with Richarlison in the box and shoots on his right foot, but Gvardiol makes a brilliant block to prevent his goalbound strike hitting the target.

18' Richarlison tries to turn in the box in the inside-right channel, but he loses out to a good challenge from Kovacic to stop him before he can threaten.
17' Croatia are pressing the Selecao in possession. They're not allowing Brazil to build the rhythm that was so effective against South Korea.
15' Casemiro loses out to Modric on the edge of the penalty area following a poor offload from Alisson. Modric clips a cross to the back post where Militao has to head clear.
14' Perisic wins the ball from Marquinhos on the left flank and earns a corner for Croatia off the legs of the defender. Brazil have not settled yet.
13' CHANCE! Juranovic drives at the Brazil defence and offloads to Pasalic down the right flank. He whips a perfect ball into the six-yard box where Perisic attempts to guide the ball home, but he miscues his effort wide of the left post amid presure from Militao.
10' Space opens up for Vinicius to line up another strike at goal after good work from Neymar down the left flank. However, he goes for throughball towards Raphinha and Lovren intercepts in the Croatia box.
9' Modric places a loose pass straight to Raphinha forcing Kovacic to foul the winger. Modric cannot afford those mistakes today.
7' Juranovic sends a deep cross to the back post where Perisic challenges Militao for the ball. He jumps into the defender, who clears the danger and wins a free-kick anyway.
6' In Brazil's Thiago Silva (38) and Croatia's Modric (37), this is the first knockout stage game at the World Cup to see both starting XIs contain a player aged 37+ since the 1958 semi-final between Germany (Fritz Walter, 37) and Sweden (Gunnar Gren, 37).
5' Vinicius lines up a curling strike on his right foot from 25 yards, but Livakovic watches it all the way. He fumbles his catch and has to dive down to gather the loose ball before a yellow shirt can pounce.
3' Kovacic surges forward down the left flank and wins a free-kick for Croatia, but the resulting free-kick from Modric is cleared by the Selecao.
1' We're under way in this World Cup quarter-final clash.
Brazil have never lost in four previous meetings with Croatia in all competitions (won three, drawn one), with this their first meeting since a 2-0 friendly win in June 2018.
Tite names an unchanged team from the side that hammered South Korea 4-1 in the last round. Richarlison continues to lead the line supported by Neymar, Vinicius and Raphinha. Militao and Danilo continue in the full-back positions. Paqueta and Casemiro sit in front of the back four, with Thiago Silva and Marquinhos anchoring the defence.
Croatia have made two changes to their side that started the round of-16 clash against Japan. Sosa returns to left-back after recovering from an illness and replaces Barisic, who drops to the bench. Pasalic comes into the line-up as he replaces Petkovic in the final third.
BRAZIL SUBS: Alex Sandro, Fred, Weverton, Dani Alves, Fabinho, Bruno Guimaraes, Antony, Rodrygo, Everton Ribeiro, Ederson, Bremer, Pedro, Gabriel Martinelli.
BRAZIL (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Eder Miltao, Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, Danilo; Lucas Paqueta, Casemiro; Raphinha, Neymar, Vinicius Junior; Richarlison.
CROATIA SUBS: Josip Stanisic, Borna Barisic, Martin Erlic, Lovro Majer, Ivo Grbic, Nikola Vlasic, Marko Livaja, Bruno Petkovic, Ante Budimir, Mislav Orsic, Domagoj Vida, Ivica Ivusic, Josip Sutalo, Luka Sucic, Kristijan Jakic.
CROATIA (4-3-3): Dominik Livakovic; Josip Juranovic, Dejan Lovren, Josko Gvardiol, Borna Sosa; Luka Modric, Marcelo Brozovic, Mateo Kovacic; Mario Pasalic, Andrej Kramaric, Ivan Perisic.
Brazil put on a clinic of attacking football in their round-of-16 clash against South Korea, scoring four goals in 36 minutes to effectively win the game in the first half. The Selecao were irresistible in the final third and marched into the quarter-finals with the quality of their performance in the opening 45 minutes. Tite's men can not expect the same approach from Croatia and will have to be prepared to carve out their opportunities. They were knocked at this stage four years ago by Belgium so they must be on their guard.
Croatia are aiming to reach the semi-final stage for the second tournament in a row. Zlatko Dalic's men had to battle past Japan on penalties in the round of 16. Ivan Perisic scored a vital header to equalise in normal time, cancelling out Daizen Maeda's opener. Neither team could find the net again, forcing the lottery of penalties. Dominik Livakovic was the hero in the shootout for Croatia saving three penalties to allow his team to advance to the quarter-finals. However, the challenge today is huge and they will need to be at their best.
