Kellyn Acosta won a header that sent Colman through, and the 22-year-old applied the finish with a first-time volley into the corner.
FCD will hope that goal is just the start of things to come for Colman, who joined from Paraguayan side Nacional for a reported $2 million fee in the offseason.
Not to be outdone, Acosta scored a fantastic goal of his own in the second half to double his team's advantage.
FCD would go on to win the match 4-0 to take a commanding lead in the two-leg playoff.
