Solskjaer on cusp of record start as Salah looks to break Red Devils hoodoo

Despite a Champions League hiccup, it's been an otherwise dream start to managerial life for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.

After accruing 25 points across his first nine Premier League games in charge, a draw or a win against Liverpool on Monday (AEDT) would see Solskjaer set a record for most points picked up by a manager in their first 10 matches in the competition.

Though the Reds loom as tough opposition, United boast a distinct home ground advantage having won seven of their last nine league outings against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer's biggest concern, however, will be his defence with the Red Devils keeping just one clean sheet at home this season and the Reds, in turn, scoring in every away league game to date.

With Liverpool looking to return to the Premier League summit with a draw or a win against United, they'll be hoping Mohamed Salah can finally step up against the Red Devils.

The Egyptian star is yet to score or assist across his three previous matches against Manchester United making them the only side in the Premier League he's faced more than once without registering a goal contribution.

Extra motivation for Salah to fire is the fact he's sitting on 49 Premier League goals and will become the fastest player to reach 50 for a single club if he strikes in his 63rd match.

Literally standing in his way will be David De Gea, who is chasing his 100th clean sheet in the competition - a feat that would see him become just the seventh player to do so with one club.

While United are nowhere near a title race Liverpool are desperately looking to triumph in, they could still throw a mighty spanner in the works on Monday with an in-form manager and Old Trafford on their side.
