Jones, who has become a celebrity himself after figuring prominently in ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, has told The Athletic of a remarkable story that continues to play out in North Wales: “Winning the Emmys is another crazy step in the journey for this football club and town under Rob and Ryan. Everything that happens around the owners seems to get crazier and crazier. A good crazy, if that makes sense. It’s brilliant for Wrexham, another positive way to put the town on the map. People worldwide, regardless of background, can always relate to ‘real’. Rob and Ryan love the town because it is real. Maybe they don’t quite get ‘real’ all the time in their world. Then, there’s the man in the street. I was talking to a tourist earlier today. He’s from Wyoming (a largely rural state in the north west of the U.S.) and was saying how Wrexham reminded him of his home town. An Emmy is a million miles away from real. But when a working-class town like Wrexham can be involved in something like this, it gives real people that little bit of hope.”
