The Oscar-winning actor acquired a minority stake in the Texas-based franchise back in 2019 – ahead of them forming part of MLS expansion plans in 2021. McConaughey is a big sports fan and can regularly be found attending Washington Commanders games in NFL and tennis action at the US Open.

He is now one of several famous faces that fill soccer boardrooms around the globe, with the likes of Reynolds, Michael B Jordan, Will Ferrell and Natalie Portman treading similar paths at Wrexham, Bournemouth, Leeds, LAFC and Angel City FC.

Red Dragons co-chairman Reynolds showed over the summer, when promoting his latest Deadpool movie, that he knows his way to the back of a net – with a penalty hammered home during a visit to Brazil. McConaughey has gone one better by picking out the top corner with a stunning strike from the edge of the box.

McConaughey’s effort, which left street baller Jack Downer stunned, was made all the more impressive by the fact that he fired into the tightest of angles without any kind of footwear on – with a barefoot shot drilled home as he shows Austin FC stars, who sit outside of the MLS playoff places at present, how it should be done.
