The German club created history on Sunday as Xabi Alonso led them to their first-ever Bundesliga title after beating Werder Bremen 5-0. Former Arsenal star Granit Xhaka was an integral part of the title-winning Leverkusen squad and contributed with a goal in the team's win over Die Werderaner.

After the match, while celebrating the historic triumph, Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong took a dig at Xhaka's former employers as he told the midfielder on his Instagram Live: "We won it, done it! You came from Arsenal, you won it here."

Alonso's side did the unthinkable - while being unbeaten in the league so far this season - as they ended Bayern Munich's 11-year title-winning streak. The Spaniard also managed to remove the 'Neverkusen' curse, an infamous nickname given to the club who finished runners-up four times in the space of six seasons around the turn of the century.

The newly crowned German champions will be next seen in action on Thursday as they take on West Ham in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final fixture. Xhaka, who moved to BayArena from Arsenal for £21m last summer, could end up finishing the season with a treble as Leverkusen also have a DFB-Pokal final date against Kaiserslautern to look forward to in May.
