'Misstiano Penaldo' - John Terry calls BBC a 'disgrace' for appearing to mock Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo after his extra-time penalty miss against Slovenia in dramatic Euro 2024 tie

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was left in tears after seeing his penalty for Portugal saved during their last-16 showdown with Slovenia at Euro 2024. Said effort was kept out by Jan Oblak during extra-time of that contest.

Portugal went on to prevail in a shootout, with Ronaldo scoring after stepping up first, and the all-time great remains in contention to capture a second continental crown in his remarkable career. He was, however, subjected to a surprising jibe by the BBC during their broadcast of a dramatic knockout encounter.

When reviewing Ronaldo’s failed spot-kick, a “Misstiano Penaldo” caption was used. Former Chelsea defender Terry, who once missed a crucial penalty in the Champions League final, posted a “this is a disgrace” message on social media alongside a screenshot of the clip in question.

He was not the only one to hit out at the BBC, as “Misstiano Penaldo” began to trend across the world, but others saw the funny side. Ronaldo has admitted to hitting “rock bottom” when his strike was palmed onto the post, but he remains in the hunt for major silverware and has never been one to let detractors drag him down.
