    WHAT HAPPENED?

    The reigning world champions thrashed arch-rivals Brazil 4-1 on Tuesday courtesy of goals from Julian Alvarez, Enzo Fernandez, Alexis Mac Allister and Giuliano Simeone. Matheus Cunha scored the consolation goal for the Selecao. The win helped Argentina increase their lead to eight points at the top of the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying table, with a spot at next year's finals already booked.

    La Albiceleste captain Messi sat out the latest round of the qualifiers after he suffered a muscle injury. The Inter Miami star, however, enjoyed the match in the comfort of his home as he shared his reaction to Argentina's thumping win on social media.
