Erling Haaland - Manchester City vs Tottenham
The Premier League is back, and it took Haaland just 34 minutes to get himself on the scoresheet. As arguably the world’s most deadly finisher, the Norwegian hopes for a better season this time around after City’s disappointing 2024/25 campaign. His brace against Wolverhampton Wanderers has set him up nicely, and Spurs will be wary of the threat he poses.
Haaland is seen as the most likely goalscorer in this one, and it’s not hard to see why. With a host of creative players around him, he'll be ready to convert chances in the box.
Gonzalo Garcia - Real Madrid vs Real Oviedo
Garcia had a fantastic Club World Cup, stepping up in Kylian Mbappe’s absence, and hopes are high that he can carry that form into La Liga. He’s a natural finisher, and whether he starts or not, newly-promoted Oviedo will be well aware of him. The 21-year-old came off the bench in the win over Osasuna, but may get more time in this one.
Oviedo are still adjusting to life in the top flight, and even with home advantage, they are big underdogs here. Los Blancos need to improve on their last outing, and Garcia offers a different sort of threat to Vinicius Jnr and the rest.
Lautaro Martinez - Inter Milan vs Torino
Martinez’s two goals at the Club World Cup took him to 24 for the season last time out, and he’s expected to shine again. At 27, there’s still time to improve, but the Argentine has proven himself to be one of Serie A’s best strikers. Inter have home advantage against a Torino side that had a lot of difficulties in the 2024/25 season, which makes them clear favourites.
I Nerazzurri are expected to challenge for the title once again, and an in-form Martinez will be a big part of that. He’s consistently troubled Torino over the years. He has got eight goals and assists in 13 matches, including one in this fixture last season.
Mika Biereth - Monaco vs Lille
Not many strikers in the world have been quite as clinical as the young former Gunner of late. Taking his time at Sturm Graz into account, the 22-year-old scored 27 goals in 2024/25 - with 13 of those coming in just half a season at Monaco. Les Rouge et Blanc hope for more of the same in the campaign ahead.
They won’t have it easy against a Lille side that finished fifth last season, but Adi Hütter has made some interesting additions this summer. Biereth wasn’t on the scoresheet in the 3-1 win over Le Havre on opening day. He's probably due one away at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
Serhou Guirassy - Borussia Dortmund vs St Pauli
Guirassy's record over the last couple of seasons has been nothing short of remarkable. He got 38 goals in 50 games for Dortmund in 2024/25, following an incredible 30 goals in 30 matches for VfB Stuttgart the season before. This season, meanwhile, he’s already off the mark after scoring Die Borussen’s winner in their DFB Pokal opener.
The Bundesliga returns this weekend, and Dortmund are away at St. Pauli. They are heavy favourites for victory. If they’re to come out on top, as expected, it’d take courage to go against the Guinean finding the back of the net. He’s lethal.
