Steelers vs Seahawks roster & injury news

Pittsburgh Steelers team news

The Steelers kicked off preparations for the Seahawks clash with a shorthanded defense. Head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that safety DeShon Elliott and defensive lineman Derrick Harmon (both knee injuries) will sit out, while linebacker Malik Harrison has landed on injured reserve. Elliott and Harrison were hurt in last week’s win over the Jets, while Harmon’s knee issue dates back to the preseason.

To cover the gap in the secondary, Pittsburgh signed veteran Jabrill Peppers, who enters his ninth season with 99 career games and 85 starts under his belt. Despite the setbacks, the Steelers are optimistic about getting corner Joey Porter Jr. and linebacker Nick Herbig back in time for Sunday.

Seattle Seahawks team news

The Seahawks opened their practice week ahead of Sunday’s trip to Pittsburgh with a couple of notable absences. Rookie safety Nick Emmanwori, who left the opener with an ankle injury, and corner Devon Witherspoon, nursing a knee issue, were sidelined. Head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed Monday that Emmanwori is dealing with a high-ankle sprain and could be headed for injured reserve, a move that would shelve him for at least four weeks. By midweek, however, Macdonald said that decision wouldn’t come until closer to game day.

Seattle is also eyeing some reinforcements. Wideouts Jake Bobo (concussion) and Dareke Young (hamstring), along with edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu (knee), all missed Week 1 but are trending in the right direction. Bobo and Nwosu were full participants on Wednesday, while Young was eased in on a limited basis.

Steelers vs Seahawks head-to-head record

The Seahawks and Steelers have gone head-to-head 21 times across both the regular season and playoffs, with Seattle holding a narrow 10-11 mark, winning 47.6% of those clashes. The Hawks, however, are riding a two-game skid against Pittsburgh heading into this one.

When you strip it down to just regular-season matchups, the rivalry sits dead even—10 wins apiece—making this Week 2 showdown a chance for one side to tip the scales.

Steelers vs Seahawks Fantasy Football

Aaron Rodgers (16.5 projected fpts) shook off his reputation for sluggish Week 1 starts in emphatic fashion during his Steelers debut. The veteran quarterback lit it up, finishing as QB7 with 25.7 fantasy points after completing 22 of 30 throws (73.3%) for 244 yards at 8.1 yards per attempt, capped by four touchdown passes.

That mirrors the way he closed out 2024—with another four-score outing—pushing his tally to 22 touchdowns against just four interceptions over his last 11 appearances. Beyond the stat sheet, what stood out was how seamlessly Rodgers operated in Arthur Smith’s scheme, looking fully bought in from the jump.

Sam Darnold (14.6 projected fpts), on the other hand, endured a rocky start to life as the Seahawks’ signal-caller. He connected on 16 of 23 attempts (69.6%) for 150 yards at 6.5 yards per attempt, but failed to find the end zone, added just 14 rushing yards, and coughed up a costly fumble. The end result was a QB30 finish with just 5.4 fantasy points. Seattle’s attack never clicked into gear—there was no effective run game, little to no play action, and barely any pre-snap motion, all staples expected from Klint Kubiak’s offense. Until the Seahawks prove they can put Darnold in more favorable situations, he’s no more than a low-end QB2, especially with the team projected under 20 points heading into Pittsburgh.

The Steelers’ defense, usually a calling card, wasn’t quite its usual self in the opener, struggling against a Jets ground game built around Justin Fields’ legs—something Seattle doesn’t bring to the table. Still, injuries could hinder Pittsburgh’s unit in Week 2, with Joey Porter Jr. (hamstring), DeShon Elliott (knee), and Malik Harrison (knee) all exiting the Jets matchup.

Steelers vs Seahawks Game Predictions

Seattle's defense presents a tougher test, but with Rodgers in rhythm and Pittsburgh’s offense clicking, the Steelers have every chance of keeping the good times rolling. Expect the Seahawks to land their punches, but the edge goes to Pittsburgh in what should be another nail-biter.

According to ESPN's projections, Seattle holds just a 38% chance to come away with the win in Week 2, with only a slim window left open for a possible tie. The rest of the probability, though, swings heavily in favor of the Black and Gold
