Who is to blame? Suspended defender Brian Mandela earns Harambee Stars call up

Maritzburg United defender Brian Mandela was among players summoned for the forthcoming qualifier against Ghana that will be played in September.

Surprisingly the former Tusker FC defender is ineligible to feature in the game following his red card against Sierra Leone in 2017. The veteran defender was given his marching orders in the 41st minute for a bad tackle on striker Alhassan Kamara, who was through on goal.

Mandela slid against a goal-bound Kamara in an attempt to dispossess him, but missed the ball and brought him down and prompting a red card from Nigerian referee Ferdinand Udoh in the match Kenya lost 2-1 away.

But surprisingly, Mandela is in the provisional squad of 38 players that were summoned for the crucial match against the Black Stars in Nairobi.

Others defenders in the squad includes David Owino (Zesco, Zambia), Joseph Okumu (AFC Ann Arbor, USA), Musa Mohammed (Nkana FC, Zambia), Erick Ouma (Vasalund, Sweden), David Ochieng (IF Brommapojkarna, Sweden), Abud Omar (Cercle Brugge, Belgium), Philemon Otieno (Gor Mahia), Jockins Atudo (Posta Rangers), Dennis Odhiambo (Sofapaka), Joash Onyango (Gor Mahia) and Benard Ochieng (Vihiga United).

Was coach Sebastien Migne aware the defender won't feature in the game but still summoned him? Maybe not!
