Back-to-back wins, a 2-1 victory at Torino and a 2-0 home win over Venezia, have Ruben Amorim's side sitting third in the early standings with six points, level with both Inter and Juventus. The trip to Turin is the first real test of whether that form can hold against elite opposition.

The transfer window, though, left questions unanswered. Milan closed the summer without the central defender widely demanded by supporters and the squad, despite last-minute attempts to sign targets including Scalvini. The defensive line of Gila and Pavlovic remains a two-man partnership rather than the three-man unit Amorim wanted for his system.
