Bayern Munich are deep into a significant squad overhaul this summer, with sporting director Max Eberl earning praise from the club's boardroom for his work so far in the transfer window. The departures are stacking up. Goalkeeper Alexander Nübel has joined Besiktas Istanbul on a deal until 2029, ending a six-year association with the club in which he made just four competitive appearances. Midfielder Leon Goretzka and defender Raphael Guerreiro have also left, creating real gaps in the squad that Vincent Kompany must now fill.
On the outgoing front, João Palhinha looks increasingly likely to follow. Sporting Lissabon pulled out of a deal, but Benfica have since emerged as a serious suitor, reportedly preparing an offer worth up to 25 million euros that would meet Bayern's asking price. Jonathan Asp Jensen has already departed, joining LaLiga side Deportivo A Coruña, while youngster Neol Aseko is set to leave for Eintracht Frankfurt.
Amid the exits, Kompany appears to have a clear internal plan. According to kicker, Germany Under-21 captain Tom Bischof is set for a considerably bigger role next season, with the midfielder earmarked to fill the void left by Goretzka and Guerreiro. New signing Ismael Saibari, meanwhile, picked up a muscle injury at the World Cup with Morocco but could return before the tournament ends. Bayern's pre-season begins with a friendly against Wehen Wiesbaden on July 25, giving Kompany little time to bed in his rebuilt squad before the Bundesliga campaign gets underway.
