Bayern Munich are deep into their pre-season build-up, but the real storyline this summer is a squad clearout that has yet to gather pace. Vincent Kompany's side crushed ninth-tier FC Rottach-Egern 15-0 at their Tegernsee training camp, a result that carried little surprise given the opposition, though it did offer a revealing subplot. Sporting director Max Eberl has been blunt about three players who need to leave: João Palhinha, Sacha Boey and Bryan Zaragoza. All three are loan returnees with no future at the club, and Eberl warned that staying would mean minimal playing time. The 15-0 win did little to help Palhinha's cause. He looked unfocused and was frequently sloppy in possession, managing only a late consolation goal. Boey was equally invisible. Newcastle United have emerged as a potential destination for Palhinha, with ESPN linking him to the role vacated by Bruno Guimarães, though nothing is concrete yet.

Off the pitch, Uli Hoeneß moved to settle two separate narratives. He flatly dismissed any prospect of selling Michael Olise, calling the Real Madrid speculation laughable, and confirmed he has personally apologised to Eberl for publicly questioning the sporting director's future before the DFB-Pokal final in May. Hoeneß now puts the chances of Eberl extending beyond 2027 at 100 percent. Meanwhile, Jamal Musiala, Harry Kane, Olise and Upamecano are all absent from the Asia tour, with Musiala recovering from a post-World Cup operation. Bayern face Jeju SK on August 4 before a tougher test against Aston Villa three days later.
