Two heavyweight contenders collide under the bright lights of Sunday Night Football in Week 6, as the Kansas City Chiefs welcome the red-hot Detroit Lions to Arrowhead Stadium.
The Lions are roaring into this matchup with a 4-1 record, riding a four-game winning streak that's made them one of the league's early powerhouses. This isn’t the same Detroit squad from a year ago, they're deeper, sharper, and playing with the swagger of a team that believes it belongs among the NFL elite.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, find themselves in unfamiliar territory. No longer the reigning champs, Patrick Mahomes and company have been more puzzling than dominant to start 2025. The absence of Rashee Rice due to suspension has left a noticeable void in the passing game, and the offense hasn't quite found its usual rhythm. Still, writing off Kansas City would be a mistake. Even in a funk, Andy Reid's crew has too much pride, and too much talent, to roll over quietly.
Kansas City Chiefs vs Detroit Lions kick-off time

Kansas City Chiefs team news
Injuries haven't hit the Kansas City Chiefs too hard this season, but there are still a few notable concerns heading into Week 6. Rashee Rice will serve the final game of his suspension, meaning the Lions won't have to deal with his usual brand of defensive chaos just yet. However, the Chiefs will be without Felix Anudike-Uzomah, who is done for the year, while safety Nazeeh Johnson remains on injured reserve. Johnson is eligible to return, but after not practicing last week, it's hard to imagine him suiting up even if he logs some light work this week.
Rookie defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott, who’s already notched a sack this season, also missed last week's game. Meanwhile, Xavier Worthy continues to battle through a nagging ankle issue after returning from a shoulder injury. He's played in consecutive games, but there's a good chance Kansas City keeps him on a snap count to avoid aggravating anything further.
And of course, as long as Patrick Mahomes is under center, the Chiefs' offense has a pulse. He may not be putting up MVP numbers this season, but make no mistake—he's still the engine that makes Kansas City run. Mahomes has thrown for 1,257 yards, eight touchdowns, and just two picks, doing everything he can to steady an offense that's lacked reliable help from its wideouts.

Detroit Lions team news
The Detroit Lions head back to Arrowhead for only the second time in three seasons, recalling their shock Week 1 victory over the defending Super Bowl champions in 2023. This time around, Kansas City's offense looks a step off, while Detroit is rolling on all cylinders. Despite the Chiefs' knack for showing up in big games, the Lions enter this one as the team to beat.
After a shaky start against the Green Bay Packers, Detroit has flipped the script, now ranking fourth in EPA per play on both sides of the ball. The ground game has been a revelation, the Lions rank sixth in rushing yards league-wide, and they should feast on a Kansas City defense that has struggled against the run. If Detroit executes like it has all season, the Chiefs could find themselves staring at a 2-4 record. On the road, the Lions don't falter — they show up and get it done.
The Lions' injury list is starting to look a little too familiar as Week 6 approaches. On Wednesday, Terrion Arnold, Kalif Raymond (neck), Taylor Decker (shoulder), Kerby Joseph (knee), and star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (wrist) were all sidelined during practice. Decker, who already missed last week’s 37-24 win over the Bengals, continues to battle that shoulder issue, putting his status for Sunday in doubt once again.
There was at least a sliver of good news, though—Brian Branch (ankle) and Alim McNeil (knee) were limited participants, suggesting both could be trending in the right direction. Still, for a Lions team that’s riding a four-game winning streak, the growing list of walking wounded could make maintaining momentum a real challenge.
Lions Injury Report: Khalil Dorsey is definitely out. Kalif Raymond, Zach Cunningham, Taylor Decker, Terrion Arnold, Sione Vaki and Alim McNeil are questionable.

Chiefs vs Lions Fantasy Football
Patrick Mahomes has been a machine through the first five weeks, landing as a top-seven fantasy QB in four of those outings. The Chiefs' signal-caller has shown off his legs with three rushing touchdowns of 11, 13, and 9 yards, though he's only thrown multiple passing touchdowns once. Since Xavier Worthy returned to the lineup, Mahomes’ efficiency has skyrocketed, posting a new season-high in yards per attempt in back-to-back weeks. Monday night was vintage Mahomes: 318 passing yards on a 70.7% completion rate, showing he's locked in. In a matchup that could easily turn into a shootout, Mahomes is a front-end QB1 without question.
Among the backs, David Montgomery is touchdown-dependent and functions best as a FLEX option. Jahmyr Gibbs remains the centerpiece of Detroit’s backfield, converting 14 touches into 87 yards and a touchdown on Sunday, keeping him firmly in RB1 territory thanks to his high-touch receiving role and consistent red-zone opportunities. Isiah Pacheco and Kenneth Gainwell are lower-tier FLEX plays — their value hinges entirely on finding the end zone.
Jared Goff was surgical on Sunday, completing 19 of 23 passes (82.6%) for 258 yards and three touchdowns against the Bengals. Worthy caught 6 of 9 targets for 42 yards and added a 9-yard carry, cementing his role as an upside WR2, especially with Detroit's cornerback room thin. Worthy was on the field for 80.4% of dropbacks, easily leading the WR rotation. JuJu Smith-Schuster ran 60.9% of dropbacks (2 catches for 17 yards), Marquise Brown 54.3% (4-48), and Tyquan Thornton 50% (3-90), showing that Worthy has become the focal point. This was only Goff's second QB1-scoring week this season, with previous success against Chicago and Cincinnati. For Week 6, he’s a reliable floor QB2, but the upside in this matchup can push him higher.
The backfield sees a curious split. Jahmyr Gibbs' touches dropped to 42.4% on Sunday, his season low, likely due to game script or David Montgomery's homecoming drawing extra work. Gibbs still converts his volume into high floor fantasy output, thanks to his receiving and red-zone involvement. Montgomery, meanwhile, turned 19 touches into 71 total yards, a rushing touchdown, and a passing touchdown. While he can be explosive if the Lions stay committed to the ground game, his touches are volatile, keeping him in the touchdown-dependent FLEX category.
Tight end Sam LaPorta finally flashed his ceiling on Sunday, hauling in 5 of 6 targets for 92 yards and his first touchdown. With the TE landscape thin and this game environment rich in scoring potential, LaPorta slots in as a TE1 for Week 6.
Chiefs vs Lions Game Predictions
The silver lining for the New England Patriots heading into Sunday Night Football is that their secondary suddenly looks a whole lot sturdier with Christian Gonzalez back in uniform. On top of that, Josh McDaniels might be able to lean on his backfield duo of TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson, especially against a Buffalo defense that's been leaking yards on the ground—164 per game at a clip of over six per carry. If there's a blueprint for an upset under the bright lights, that's it.
But let's not kid ourselves. Betting against Josh Allen right now feels like lighting your money on fire. The Bills' superstar quarterback has been shredding defenses, sidestepping pass rushers like they're traffic cones, and punishing secondaries that dare to test him. So far, nobody's been able to slow the Buffalo.
Sure, New England is fresh off a confidence-boosting win over the Panthers, but let's be honest—the Panthers aren't the Bills. Unless the Patriots suddenly find an offensive rhythm they've yet to show all season, this matchup feels less like a toss-up and more like another notch on Allen's belt.
