The shared points mean Reals Madrid and Sociedad remain second and third in the table respectively. Los Blancos miss the chance to make ground on leaders Barcelona, and now trail the Blaugrana by five points, having played the same number of games. Sociedad, in turn, are now five points clear of fourth-placed Atletico Madrid, having kept their city rivals Real at bay in a performance that shows their consolidated top-four spot is fully deserved.
Kroos pulled the strings in Madrid's midfield all game long, and came close to scoring himself on a number of occasions. He completed more touches, passes and balls into the final third than anyone else on the pitch, also winning possession five times via three tackles and two interceptions, as well as winning five free-kicks.
An absolute thrill of a 0-0 draws to a close with neither side able to find that all-important winner! Real Madrid created a copious number of chances in both halves, but couldn't find a way past Remiro, who pulled off some unbelievable saves. The visitors also forced Courtois into action through Kubo and Navarro, but they'll be more than happy to have taken a point from a game which was dominated by Los Blancos for large periods. Los Blancos will be wondering how they couldn't find a breakthrough though, with Benzema, Kroos and Vinicius in particular all coming within millimetres of a winner.

90' + 2' Militao's pass back to Courtois is met by a very heavy touch from the goalkeeper, and pressure from Kubo forces the Belgian into hacking it out for a throw right by his own corner flag!

What reflexes from the Sociedad custodian there!
70' SAVED!!! Kubo beats Camavinga down the byline and drills the ball back across the face of goal. A deflection sees it come to Navarro, whose shot takes a nick off Nacho and luckily flies straight into the waiting gloves of Courtois!

67' SAVED!!! A Real Madrid free-kick is cleared, but Nacho recovers the ball and passes inside to Valverde. He whips a first-time cross back into the area, and Militao's glancing header is held by Remiro!

Vinicius was practically unplayable at times during that first half, creating 0.39 xG from two shots and seven touches in the box. The forward has contested and won half of his eight duels so far, completing three dribbles in the process and winning a free-kick. He's lost the ball a game-high 12 times though, showing that Sociedad are well aware of the threat he poses by ensuring he's marked tightly at every opportunity.
A highly entertaining, albeit goalless, first half comes to an end, with both sides having several chances to find the breakthrough. Early misses from Sorloth and Illarramendi nearly saw the visitors edge in front, but hosts Madrid have had the lion's share of the best opportunities. Kroos, Benzema and the increasingly dangerous Vinicius have all forced Remiro into saves, and unless the Txuri-Udrinak can prevent the dangerous runs of Vinicius and Rodrygo, it's only a matter of time before Los Blancos take the lead.

43' Rudiger and Le Normand tussle again in the box ahead of Madrid's corner, and the German international goes down, claiming a penalty. The referee is unwavered though and calls play on, much to the relief of the Sociedad defender.

41' A Sociedad free-kick is headed clear and Camavinga spreads it wide to Rodrygo down the right. He bursts into open space and heads towards the box before finding Vinicius, but he's crowded out and can't find Benzema outside him!
39' Militao's ball over the top has Benzema surging after it, but Le Normand gets goal-side of the Ballon D'Or winner and wins a free-kick after he's nudged to the floor by Benzema.

34' Sociedad won their last away league game against a Madrid-based team, beating Rayo Vallecano 2-0. They had failed to win their previous seven in the Spanish capital, and last won two away games in a row against sides from Madrid in April 2013 against Atletico and Vallecano.

26' Valverde cuts out a Sociedad ball forward and plays in Vinicius. He crosses to the far post, but Le Normand gets a touch and the ball rolls back into Remiro's clutches.
24' Madrid counter as Valverde scoops a pass inside to Rodrygo. He's got a four-on-three ahead of him, but behind him, Zubimendi arrives to knock the winger to the ground and concede the free-kick.
22' Camavinga makes a surge forward and links up with Vinicius down the left. He looks to switch play to Valverde in space, but Oyarzabal intercepts with a good defensive header which he knocks back to his goalkeeper.
20' Vinicius pops up on the right and beats Munoz all ends up on his way into the area. He looks to cut it back to the penalty spot, but there's plenty of Sociedad shirts in cover and Oyarzabal is able to pass his way out of trouble.

Madrid captain Karim Benzema scored his fourth goal in three games to open the scoring against Athletic Bilbao, before Toni Kroos' strike in the final minute sealed the win. Both veterans keep their places in the team for this match, with Ceballos and Valverde joining Kroos in the engine room while Benzema is flanked by Brazil wingers Rodrygo and Vinicius.
