Jacksonville Jaguars vs Cincinnati Bengals NFL Preview: Team news, betting, tickets, live stream, Fantasy Football and more

The Jacksonville Jaguars will look to build momentum under new head coach Liam Coen as they chase a 2-0 start, heading to Cincinnati for a Sunday afternoon clash with the Bengals.

It wasn’t exactly a preseason to remember for Jacksonville, which stumbled to a 0-2-1 mark. The Jaguars opened with a 31-25 setback against the Pittsburgh Steelers, salvaged a 17-17 draw with the New Orleans Saints, and then wrapped things up with a 14-6 defeat to the Miami Dolphins.

Cincinnati didn’t light the world on fire in August either. The Bengals dropped their opener to the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles in a 34-27 shootout, rebounded with a convincing 31-17 victory over the Commanders, but finished on a sour note in a lopsided 41-14 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Jaguars vs Bengals Fantasy Football

Joe Burrow (21.1 projected fpts) stumbled out of the gate in Week 1, managing just 113 passing yards and a lone touchdown, good for 8.82 fantasy points. Still, it’s far too early to panic. Remember, Burrow finished last year as the QB3 overall with a whopping 381.8 fantasy points (22.5 per game). He topped the league in passing yards (4,918), completions (460), attempts (652), and touchdowns (43). Add in the fact that he owns the NFL's all-time mark for completion percentage at 68.6%, and it’s easy to believe he’ll bounce back quickly in Cincinnati’s high-octane offense.

Things are also clearing up in Jacksonville's backfield. Travis Etienne Jr. (11.3 projected fpts) dominated touches in Week 1, handling 19 of 26 RB opportunities. The picture became even sharper Monday night when the Jaguars dealtTank Bigsby to the Eagles, leaving Etienne alongside rookies Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen Jr. Tuten, a fourth-round pick, has the speed to carve out a bigger role once he gets more comfortable with the system.

For now, though, it’s Etienne's show, and he already looks closer to his 2023 form — leading the Jags in snaps, touches, and fantasy output last week. His matchup this week is promising too: Cincinnati’s defense has surrendered at least 15.1 fantasy points to an opposing RB in seven of its last eight outings.

On defense, Jacksonville delivered a strong 12-point fantasy performance against Carolina in Week 1. But don’t get fooled into chasing those points. Facing Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase (13.5 fpts), and the Bengals is a whole different animal. This isn’t a matchup to trust in fantasy, so it might be time to toss the Jags’ D/ST back on the waiver wire and search for a safer play.

Jaguars vs Bengals Game Predictions

Oddsmakers peg Cincinnati as the slight favorite this weekend, giving the Bengals a 58.8% chance to top the Jaguars, while Jacksonville sits at 40.8%, with the slim remainder left for a potential tie.

Looking strictly at Week 1, the Jaguars appeared sharper than Cincinnati. Still, there's no mistaking the difference in competition, facing Joe Burrow is a far cry from seeing Bryce Young. Expect Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson to put some heat on Trevor Lawrence, but the bigger question is whether Cincinnati’s defense can handle both Brian Thomas Jr.’s explosiveness on the outside and Liam Coen’s steady ground game.
