Bayer Leverkusen's season has taken a turbulent turn. After a promising run of five consecutive wins across all competitions, the Werkself have now suffered back-to-back Bundesliga defeats, the most damaging being a 4-2 home loss to VfB Stuttgart on October 31. That result leaves Leverkusen sixth in the Bundesliga table with 13 points from eight games, already showing the kind of inconsistency that could cost them in a tight title race.

Off the pitch, two significant stories are adding pressure. Victor Boniface has made clear to his representatives that he wants to leave on loan in January, with Sky reporting he is "really unhappy" at the club. Having collected just five minutes of action this season, his frustration boiled over after Leverkusen added Jonas Hofmann to the Europa League squad ahead of him. Hofmann promptly justified the decision by scoring twice in the first half against OFI Kreta. Boniface's situation is a distraction Carles Martinez could do without.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly ready to move for Ibrahim Maza as early as the January window, identifying the 20-year-old as a replacement for the injured Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Maza has three goals and three assists in eleven appearances this season, and Leverkusen are working on a contract extension to keep him beyond 2030. The club insists it remains unmoved by PSG's interest, but the speculation is unlikely to fade.

Leverkusen's next chance to reset comes in the Europa League at home to Marseille on November 5.
