‘Hard to get’ – Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney set Wrexham transfer challenge as Phil Parkinson admits to identifying targets in January window

The Red Dragons have worked hard on assembling a squad that is fiercely competitive in League Two, on the back of landing the National League title in record-breaking style last season. A number of players have been acquired, with some considerable outlay involved, that are considered to be ready for a higher level.

Wrexham are, however, still working on bolstering their ranks, with Parkinson saying when asked if he would like to add in the winter window: “We're looking. Obviously like any other transfer window the players we have identified or the player - they're hard to get. They're going to have to improve what we've got, which won't be easy. We've got a good squad, we've got a great spirit, we've got players coming back from injury. Is there someone out there we feel can improve that? If there is, can we get a deal done? Plates are spinning as always, conversations have been had but at the moment [there's] nothing imminent.”

Parkinson has guided his side up to third place in the League Two table, with another promotion bid on the cards, and added on starting to take more interest in the fourth tier standings: “At the start of the season it doesn't have much relevance but when you get halfway and beyond then of course you are looking at the league table and looking where teams are and aware of it.”

Reynolds and McElhenney have backed Parkinson and Co whenever funds are required, with impressive progress made at SToK Racecourse on and off the field, and more minor tinkering before the end of January could help to make the difference between securing a top-three finish in 2023-24 and having to settle for a ticket in the play-off lottery.
