Bio: If you can’t make a living from playing the game, then make one writing about it. I did my best to tick the first of those boxes, but it was not to be. I have been working hard at the latter for the best part of two decades and joined the collection of international stars that make up team GOAL in 2016. I am now Senior Staff Writer, which means my days are spent covering everything that the sometimes weird and often wonderful world of football has to offer. I have always been a fan of mercurial talents and love an underdog story, which goes some way to explaining why - alongside my East Midlands roots - Nottingham Forest are (for better or worse) my team of choice.

My Football Story: From the local playing field with friends, all through school, representing teams at various levels and facing a number of future professionals, to endless hours spent at the City Ground, a university degree and professional employment that has taken me to iconic venues across the country, football has always been the thread that ties my past, present and future together. I wouldn’t have it any other way and consider myself fortunate that I have been able to pass my passion for the game down to my son, who now finds himself heading down a similar path.

Favourite Footballing Memory: I was too young to have witnessed Nottingham Forest’s European glory years and not yet old enough to have seen them add a third star to that famous Garibaldi shirt, being at Wembley as a 23-year wait for Premier League football came to a close will always be a special experience. I don’t remember much about the game itself, given the nerve-shredding nature of play-off finals, but the celebrations afterwards made enough memories to last several lifetimes.

Doyle pleaded guilty to 31 offences relating to seriously injuring members of the public.

    Former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has, after enduring a missing dog ordeal in Mexico, aired his surprise at seeing Liga MX side Pumas rip up his contract. The Wales international played just six games for the Central American outfit after stepping out of his comfort zone in Europe. He returned to the UK after seeing his beloved pet go missing in October.

    Inter Miami are reportedly plotting a stunning swoop for Robert Lewandowski that would see the prolific Polish striker join forces with Lionel Messi. The Herons will be looking to defend their MLS Cup crown in 2026 and intend to make more marquee additions to their ranks. Co-owner Sir David Beckham is among those scouring the market, with Lewandowski registering on his recruitment radar.

    “Exceptional” Harry Kane is, given his strike rate at Bayern Munich this season, being tipped to break Robert Lewandowski’s record when it comes to most goals scored in a single Bundesliga campaign. England captain Kane has recorded 18 efforts through just 14 games this season, leaving him well on course to better Lewandowski’s tally of 41 from 2020-21.

    Erling Haaland has been put in an exclusive club, with the Manchester City striker considered to be one of few players that are capable of chasing down Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo when it comes to goal output. Messi and Ronaldo, who continue to dominate GOAT debates, are considered to have "changed the game" and put down serious markers for the next generation.

  4. Man Utd figures 'very uneasy' about Amorim's Mainoo handling

    Some behind the scenes at Manchester United are said to be “very uneasy” at Ruben Amorim’s brutal handling of academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo. The England international midfielder is yet to start a Premier League game in the 2025-26 campaign. That has led to inevitable questions being asked of his future, ahead of another transfer window, and whether his manager is adopting the right stance.

  5. 'Nowhere near' - Chelsea star Palmer in stark fitness admission

    Cole Palmer admits that he is still “nowhere near 100 per cent in terms of fitness” after getting back on the scoresheet for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. In what has been an injury-hit 2025-26 campaign for the Blues playmaker, he helped Enzo Maresca’s side to a welcome 2-0 victory over Everton. His game time will continue to be managed from here.

Chalamet has shared an iconic image of teen sensation Yamal alongside Argentine GOAT Lionel Messi to help hammer home his point that anything is possible.
