Eintracht Frankfurt's season has started in the worst possible way. A 1-4 home defeat to Augsburg on September 6 left the club 13th in the Bundesliga table with just one point from two matches, and the pressure on coach Adi Hütter is already building.

The result follows a chaotic summer that never fully settled. Frankfurt drew 3-3 at Union Berlin on the opening weekend, surrendering a 3-1 lead late on, and the defensive frailties that cost them in that game were exposed again against Augsburg. The club conceded 17 goals across five pre-season and competitive fixtures, a run that tells its own story about structural problems at the back.

The goalkeeper situation dominated the transfer window. After a 0-7 pre-season thrashing by Brentford exposed Kaua Santos, Hütter moved quickly to bring in Noah Atubolu on loan from SC Freiburg, with a purchase obligation of around 12.5 million euros kicking in next summer. Atubolu had endured a troubled summer of his own after a failed pursuit of Premier League clubs, but arrived at Frankfurt as the clear number one. His debut at Union Berlin was turbulent, and the Augsburg defeat has done little to ease concerns.

Off the pitch, speculation over sporting director Markus Krösche's future added further noise, though club president Mathias Beck publicly backed him and the kicker reported no imminent departure was planned.
