That's all from Mallorca today, so thank you for joining us and goodbye!
With a bitter taste in their mouths, Madrid now travel to Morocco for the Club World Cup, before returning to league action against Osasuna later this month - followed by a trip to Liverpool for the first leg of their Champions League tie. Mallorca, meanwhile, are bound for Seville next weekend, but will first savour today's success against their illustrious opponents
A famous victory for Mallorca continues the islanders' fine home form in La Liga, and edging a fractious encounter with their counterparts from the capital will taste particularly sweet. There was no love lost between the teams as a total of 10 yellow cards were shown, but the hosts held off Real Madrid with a dogged defensive effort after sneaking a first-half advantage. Asensio's penalty miss summed up the champions' day, and Ancelotti's injury-hit side suffer just a third league loss of the season.
90' + 9' FULL-TIME: MALLORCA 1-0 REAL MADRID
90' + 8' CLOSE! Alaba and Modric both have passes cut out on the edge of the box, as Madrid lay siege to the Mallorca goal. Then, Rudiger pops up near the penalty spot to meet Kroos' cross and glances a header just wide!
90' + 6' Incessant Madrid pressure finally ends when the ball deflects behind off Vinicius Junior near the left byline, and Mallorca can breathe again. The seconds continue to tick away!
90' + 4' In a chaotic ending to the match, eight minutes of stoppage time have been signalled. After Camavinga's blocked attempt results in a corner, Modric sends over a cross which Mariano heads wide from the centre of the area - he's got his head in his hands!
C. Grenier
Ruíz de Galarreta
90' + 2' Amid some confusion on the touchline, Ruiz de Galarreta is replaced by Grenier.
Raíllo
Yellow Card
90' + 2' The referee reaches for his pocket again: Raillo's foul on Rudiger leads to a booking for the Mallorca captain.
90' + 1' A series of confrontations between players on either side causes the referee to call proceedings to a halt. This contest has always threatened to boil over, and Madrid's growing frustration is proving a potent addition to the mix!
M. Díaz
Yellow Card
90' For a clumsy challenge on Ruiz de Galarreta, substitute Mariano is booked by the referee.
89' Veteran pair Modric and Kroos both have shots blocked as Mallorca hang on for dear life - the hosts are just moments away from a memorable victory here.
87' CLOSE! An improvised volley from Mariano almost gets Madrid back into the game, as he meets Alaba's outswinging cross with a cushioned effort that just drops over the top-left corner!
Pablo Maffeo
Yellow Card
87' After attempting to lash out at Vinicius Junior but missing, Maffeo becomes the latest player to have his name taken by the overworked referee.
84' Sanchez fires in a hopeful shot from outside the box, which is saved in the bottom-left corner by Lunin, then Camavinga shoots well over at the other end.
82' Having picked up a knock due to Modric's late tackle, Costa requires medical attention, but after a short delay in the game he is able to continue.
L. Modrić
Yellow Card
81' Attempting to stop a counter-attack by bringing down Costa, Modric is booked shortly after his arrival from the bench.
Ruíz de Galarreta
Yellow Card
80' A late challenge on Modric results in a yellow card for Ruiz de Galarreta.
79' Two subs combine, as Ndiaye attempts a flicked shot at the near post following Sanchez's cross from the right byline but sees it blocked behind by Carvajal for a corner.
R. Battaglia
I. Baba
78' Battaglia is also brought on; Baba comes off.
Antonio Sánchez
Lee Kang-In
78' Sanchez is thrown on by Aguirre to provide fresh legs, and Lee will be replaced.
77' A rare Mallorca break sees Muriqi almost release Ndiaye through the middle, but a white-shirted defender arrives just in time to cut the ball out.
75' From Alaba's cross, Rodrygo can't cleanly connect with a header near the centre of the area, which misses to the right. It's been a real struggle for him up front today.
73' Mallorca's systematic fouling of Vinicius Junior continues, as the Madrid man is felled for the umpteenth time today - this time out on the left touchline, with his coach Ancelotti standing close by.
T. Kroos
A. Tchouaméni
71' The final change sees Kroos come on for Tchouameni in midfield.
D. Alaba
Dani Ceballos
71' Ceballos is also withdrawn, as Alaba comes on for the final 20 minutes.
M. Díaz
Marco Asensio
71' Ancelotti goes for broke, making a triple substitution. First, Asensio is replaced by Diaz.
68' SAVE! Rajkovic keeps Madrid at bay again, as he sticks out a boot to deny Vinicius Junior from close range, following the winger's surge down the left touchline and into the box!
A. Ndiaye
Dani Rodríguez
68' After a combative display for the hosts, Rodriguez is replaced; Ndiaye comes on instead.
66' JUST WIDE! Asensio spots a chance to drift in from the right flank, and having reached the edge of the box, unleashes a low shot which whistles past the left-hand post and clatters into the hoardings behind Rajkovic's goal.
L. Modrić
F. Valverde
64' Following his booking, Valverde departs the scene straight away; Modric comes on to aid Madrid's hopes of an equaliser.
F. Valverde
Yellow Card
64' A heavy tackle on Lee earns Valverde a merited yellow card, and that may be his last action of the game, as Ancelotti is set to withdraw him.
63' Rodriguez pulls back Vinicius Junior after the Brazilian forward manages to evade two other opponents in midfield, and Real Madrid have yet another free-kick. This is more of a battle than a football match!
Jaume Costa
Yellow Card
61' A blatant hack on Rodrygo out on the touchline sees Costa booked, despite his pointless protestations.
Marco Asensio
Penalty Miss
60' PENALTY MISS! Forced to wait for over a minute before taking his penalty, Asensio strikes the ball towards the bottom-right corner, where Rajkovic meets it with an outstretched palm, pushing it wide for a corner!
P. Rajković
Penalty Save
60' RAJKOVIC SAVES! After an interminable delay, during which Rajkovic is fortunate not to receive a booking, the goalkeeper flings himself low to his left to repel Asensio's bottom-corner bound spot-kick!
57' PENALTY FOR REAL MADRID! A long hopeful ball into the box evades both Rodrygo and Raillo, but as it seems set to drift behind Vinicius Junior hares onto the scene and is then clipped by a flat-footed Rajkovic! The referee has no hesitation: it's a penalty-kick!
55' From a 25-yard free-kick on the left, Ceballos clips a delicate ball past the mass of players in the area and it spins wide of the right-hand post, leaving Rajkovic untroubled. Madrid continue to struggle for inspiration in the final third.
53' Twice Mallorca are forced into blocks on shots from outside the box, after Carvajal's inswinging cross to the penalty spot is initially headed away.
51' On the counter, Lee strides clear down the left, but after he reaches the edge of the area his throughball is too heavy and trickles away from Rodriguez in the centre.
50' Again, Vinicius Junior is bundled over by Maffeo, but the decision goes the latter's way - it's an explosive contest between the two today.
48' As the fouling continues apace straight after the interval, Ancelotti complains to the referee in a one-to-one chat by the touchline. These two teams clearly do not get on!
46' Real Madrid kick off, and we are back under way!
With so few attacking alternatives available on the bench, will Madrid be able to turn this game around against particularly stubborn opponents? There remains plenty of experience among the subs, though, so maybe Modric or Kroos can play a part after the break.
Following a fractious first half, in which the action was constantly broken up by niggly fouls from both sides, Mallorca continue their impressive home form by leading the champions. Without last-minute withdrawal Courtois, Madrid saw stand-in stopper Lunin beaten by Nacho's touch on a Muriqi header, and they were unable to respond with even a single shot on target. Missing a whole raft of players today, Ancelotti will most lament Benzema's absence, as his team have looked toothless without their skipper.
Dani Ceballos
Yellow Card
45' + 2' Just after the half-time whistle, Ceballos has a little too much to say for himself in conversation with the referee and sees yellow before heading down the tunnel.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: MALLORCA 1-0 REAL MADRID
Vinícius Júnior
Yellow Card
44' Much to the home fans' delight, Vinicius Junior receives the game's first booking for stepping on Maffeo when the pair collide in the penalty area.
42' With half-time now nearing, Mallorca enjoy a rare spell of possession, allowing them to shift a few yards upfield following their long rearguard action.
40' After Asensio's corner, Valverde plants an effort from outside the area over Rajkovic's crossbar. That's his third missed attempt of the game.
37' The champions are off-target again as Rodrygo's shot from outside the box is aimed too high following a Ceballos free-kick.
36' Following a feisty tussle between Valverde and Costa in midfield, the home fans are outraged when the free-kick goes Madrid's way. The referee will do well to stop this game boiling over before the break, due to both teams' incessant fouling.
34' Tchouameni wins a free-kick in Mallorca's half after being toppled by Ruiz de Galarreta, but once more, Madrid cannot carve out an opening from the set-piece situation.
32' Baba is frustrated to be penalised for a challenge on Rodrygo, who cleverly shifts the ball between his feet to draw the foul. Madrid have a free-kick just over 30 yards out from goal in a central area.
31' Mallorca have won four of their last seven La Liga games, while winning and keeping a clean sheet in all three of their home fixtures. As things stand, they could continue that run today.
29' With Asensio lurking behind him near the edge of the area, Nastasic is forced to nod a dropping ball from distance behind for another Madrid corner. Once again, Los Blancos fail to use the set-piece well.
27' Tchouameni brings down Rodriguez inside his own half, but the subsequent free-kick comes to nothing for the hosts.
25' The hosts are holding firm despite wave after wave of white jerseys flooding forward towards their area. With something to defend, it may take all Madrid's ingenuity to break them down.
23' After Valverde's drive is deflected into the path of Rodrygo on the edge of Mallorca's area, the latter almost pulls it down into his path for a shot, but is then flagged for offside anyway.
21' Mallorca manage to withstand three Madrid corners in short succession, as the champions press ever harder for an equaliser. Ancelotti's side are in total control now.
19' With the ball flashing across his box following Carvajal's powerful cross from the right, Rajkovic palms it away from immediate danger but out for a Madrid corner.
17' While Real Madrid have won one and lost two when conceding the opening goal away from home in La Liga this season, Mallorca have won six and lost just once after netting the opener themselves.
15' Raillo has to intervene just outside his six-yard box, as Rodrygo tries to reach a bouncing ball with his head. At the last moment, Mallorca's skipper does just enough to get it away to safety.
Nacho
Own Goal
13' MALLORCA GO IN FRONT! The home side take a shock 1-0 lead, as Muriqi's flick-header clips Nacho, loops up over Lunin and into the top-right corner of the net! Making the most of slack marking on the left flank, Rodriguez has time to swing over a cross to the penalty spot, and the Kosovan striker played his part in forcing the own goal!
11' Lee sends Costa away on the left as Mallorca counter-attack, but the wing-back's high cross towards the back post is struck too firmly and bounces harmlessly towards the corner flag. It's collected by Lunin.
9' Madrid have had 66 per cent of the ball during the opening stages, as Mallorca sit back in what now looks like a 5-4-1 formation; leaving Muriqi somewhat isolated up front.
7' After a clean tackle by Camavinga prevents Maffeo reaching the right byline, the home fans roar in protest for a penalty, then the latter wins a free-kick on the touchline following Vinicius Junior's foul.
6' Madrid enjoy their first spell of unbroken possession in the hosts' half, but are unable to prise their opponents open despite such territorial advantage.
4' Amid a niggly start, broken up by several fouls, Vinicius Junior goes down under a challenge from Rodriguez, and there is some jostling between players on either side.
2' From a central position, around 40 yards from goal, Lee overhits an inswinging free-kick into the Madrid box, and the ball bounces behind for a goal-kick to the visitors.
1' The hosts kick off, and we are under way in Palma!
The players are out on the pitch at a sunny Son Moix, and kick-off is now just moments away!
Injury-hit Madrid travelled to Palma without several squad members, and Carlo Ancelotti has been unable to fill his bench: Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao and captain Karim Benzema join Eden Hazard, Lucas Vazquez and Ferland Mendy on the injury list today. Tchouameni starts in midfield, having returned to action in midweek, as Kroos and Modric drop to the bench; in Benzema's absence, Rodrygo starts as the champions' central striker.
Following their defeat in Cadiz, Mallorca make several changes today, with Nastasic, Baba and Gonzalez coming into the starting XI. Jose Copete is ruled out through suspension so the latter slots into the hosts' defensive line, while Muriqi continues up front, aiming to add to his eight league goals so far this season.
SUBS: Luis Lopez, Alvaro Odriozola, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, David Alaba, Mariano, Jesus Vallejo.
REAL MADRID (4-3-3): Andriy Lunin; Dani Carvajal, Nacho, Antonio Rudiger, Eduardo Camavinga; Federico Valverde, Aurelien Tchouameni, Dani Ceballos; Marco Asensio, Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior.
SUBS: Dominik Greif, Leo Roman, Rodrigo Battaglia, Ludwig Augustinsson, Clement Grenier, Dennis Hadzikadunic, Antonio Sanchez, Angel Rodriguez, Tinotenda Kadewere, Amath Ndiaye, Abdon Prats, Manuel Morlanes.
MALLORCA (3-5-2): Predrag Rajkovic; Giovanni Gonzalez, Antonio Raillo, Matija Nastasic; Pablo Maffeo, Dani Rodriguez, Inigo Ruiz de Galarreta, Iddrisu Baba, Jaume Costa; Lee Kang-In, Vedat Muriqi.
By contrast with their hosts, Real Madrid have won four of their last five games all told, and now aim to move within two points of leaders Barcelona in La Liga's standings with another victory today. Los Blancos followed up their derby success in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals by drawing with Real Sociedad and then posting a 2-0 win over Valencia on Thursday. While Madrid have dominated Mallorca of late - winning nine of the clubs' last 10 meetings - both their La Liga losses in 2022-23 have come when venturing outside the capital.
Unbeaten in four home matches, having won each of their last three, Mallorca are enjoying some fine form away from the Spanish mainland. However, after a 2-0 defeat at struggling Cadiz last time out, they have now lost three of their last four fixtures in all competitions. While one of the lowest scorers in La Liga this term - having found the net on just 15 occasions - Javier Aguirre's side have conceded only 18 times, which leaves them sitting in mid-table. Before the champions arrive in town today, Los Piratas have lost each of their last four league matches against Madrid.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of today's La Liga clash between Mallorca and Real Madrid at Estadio Son Moix!
