La Liga president uses disturbing 'buying cocaine' & 'child sex' references as Javier Tebas goes on bizarre WhatsApp & Meta football piracy tirade

During a tirade delivered at the Intellectual Property Summit held in Miami, Tebas railed against the lack of serious punishment for football piracy, making a bizarre comparison between streaming football illegally and committing more serious crimes such as 'buying cocaine' or Googling 'child sex'.

This isn't the first time Tebas has made headlines for his controversial public comments. As well as repeatedly railing against issues such as piracy in football, the La Liga president has also drawn criticism for welcoming the arrival of Mason Greenwood in Spain, saying "I don't care" in response to questions about the young forward — who was arrested in 2022 on suspicion of rape and sexual assault — and his past.

Tebas told the summit: "If you go to Google and type in 'I want to buy cocaine' or 'child sex' nothing appears. But if you type in 'free football' it appears... One is considered a serious crime, but the other is not, and it's the same thing."

He continued: "On Telegram and Discord there are groups of 50 and 60 thousand people, of all languages, with the 'links' to view illegal content. In Spain they were going to ban Telegram for piracy, in the end the judge who was willing to do it backed down. They and Discord are giving a lot of information on how you can get this content. We will also go after Meta because it is also happening in the WhatsApp communities and they are not collaborating to help clarify it."

As well as focusing on the issue of piracy and illegal streaming in football, Tebas is also currently attempting to build excitement about the proposed arrival of hugely talented players such as Kylian Mbappe in La Liga in the near future. Recently, he claimed there was a 99% chance that the French star would be signing for Real Madrid in the summer. Whether he'll turn out to be correct is yet to be seen.
