James Rodríguez is reportedly set to leave Club León at the end of the Apertura 2025, as his contract expires in December and neither side intends to renew. With only six months remaining before the 2026 World Cup, the former Real Madrid star will have to find a new destination and could either stay in Liga MX or make the move to MLS.
América striker Henry Martín has overcome the knee sprain that has kept him sidelined since Matchday 8 against Chivas. But while he has returned to light training, he is still not fully recovered or match-fit - and therefore will not be included in the squad for Saturday’s clash with Cruz Azul. The Águilas will look to stay near the top of the Liga MX table.
Ahead of the highly anticipated Clásico Joven, Cruz Azul manager Nicolás Larcamón said the rivalry between La Máquina and América continues to grow in importance - and is now the biggest fixture in Mexican football. Los Azulcremas enter the weekend sitting second in the table with 27 points, while the Celestes are in fourth with 25.
Club America's Alejandro Zendejas delivered a spectacular two-goal performance on Saturday night, punctuated with an audacious chip over Costa Rican icon Keylor Navas that put his side up 3-1 in a commanding 4-1 victory against rivals Pumas UNAM. The 27-year-old's masterful display continued his exceptional run of form in the Apertura 2025 campaign.
Club América earned a hard-fought 1-0 road win over Atlético de San Luis thanks to an 89th-minute strike from Alejandro Zendejas, sending the three points back to Mexico City ahead of Saturday’s Clásico Capitalino against Pumas. The USMNT winger now has three goals in the Apertura 2025 and has produced a goal or assist in four straight games, underlining his impressive form.
Keylor Navas’ arrival has transformed Pumas' defense, with the veteran goalkeeper providing much-needed leadership for their backline. Since the former Real Madrid goalkeeper took over in net, Efraín Juárez’s side has surged. The Universitarios stretched their unbeaten run to seven with a 1-1 draw against Tigres, climbing to seventh in the table.
Monterrey announced the signing of former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial from AEK Athens, adding yet another big name to a blockbuster Liga MX transfer window. But reports quickly surfaced claiming that Pumas had already reached an agreement with the French striker. What really happened? Both clubs have now spoken.
Club América midfielder Alejandro Zendejas returned to Mauricio Pochettino’s U.S. men’s national team squad for the international window earlier this month after being left out of the Nations League Final Four and the Gold Cup. Back on the pitch for friendlies against South Korea and Japan, Zendejas scored for Pochettino's side.
Henry Martín picked up the injury during Monday’s training session and is expected to be out for an undetermined period. The Club América captain had just returned in the 2-1 Clásico Nacional defeat to Chivas. After an injury-plagued year, he had regained fitness but still hasn’t scored this Apertura 2025 after eight rounds.
América entered the Clásico Nacional at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes as clear favorites, given the very realities of both clubs in the Apertura 2025. The Azulcremas were sitting second in the standings, while Chivas were near the bottom in 16th place. But Gabriel Milito’s side stunned their rivals with a 2-1 win on Saturday night.
Mexican football closed one of the most high-profile transfer windows in its history. Global stars continue to arrive in Liga MX, raising the league’s international profile and drawing in fans. This summer’s headline arrivals included Keylor Navas, Ángel Correa, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Aaron Ramsey - capped off by Anthony Martial’s move to Monterrey.
