Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Jay Lynch has lifted the lid on the reaction of Arsenal’s stars following their humiliating Carabao Cup exit on Tuesday night. The League Two side produced one of the tournament’s greatest shocks by dumping Mikel Arteta’s side out on penalties at Highbury Stadium.

Arsenal will be forced to delay their pursuit of Atletico Madrid attacker Alex Baena until next summer as the Spanish heavyweights have ruled out sanctioning a mid-season departure. Mikel Arteta is keen on bringing the 25-year-old playmaker to north London in January, but the Liga side are determined to keep hold of their prized asset.

Liverpool will host Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, while holders Manchester City take on League One side Bradford City. Fleetwood Town, who knocked Arsenal out on penalties, will welcome Everton or Newcastle United, and Crystal Palace face Sunderland in an all-Premier League tie, with all four games set for the week commencing December 14.

Arsenal have decided to appeal the red card shown to Max Dowman during their disappointing Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Fleetwood Town. The teenage sensation was sent off in the closing stages of the match, leaving Mikel Arteta visibly frustrated on the touchline as his side crashed out on penalties.
