Los Angeles Chargers vs Indianapolis Colts NFL Preview: Team news, betting, tickets, live stream, Fantasy Football and more

Two AFC heavyweights are set to clash on Sunday afternoon as the Los Angeles Chargers welcome the Indianapolis Colts in what promises to be a statement game for both sides.

The Colts enter the contest at 4-1, with their only blemish coming in the City of Angels a few weeks ago against the Rams. Meanwhile, the Chargers are fresh off a dramatic victory over the Dolphins, stealing the game with a last-second field goal after nearly squandering a 26-13 advantage.

Indianapolis has been firing on all cylinders offensively — their status as the league's top-ranked attack says plenty. Sitting at 5-1, they've been carried by Jonathan Taylor, who continues to look every bit the league’s premier back, piling up 603 rushing yards and seven touchdowns through just six games.

Los Angeles, on the other hand, has had to regroup following Najee Harris' injury, yet they’ve still found ways to win tight battles. Their latest triumph came in Miami, where Justin Herbert threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Chargers to a nail-biting 29-27 win.

Los Angeles Chargers team news

Justin Herbert joined rarefied air this week, logging his 35th career game with at least two touchdown passes and a passer rating north of 100, a mark that cements his place among the NFL's elite signal-callers through six seasons.

The Chargers' backfield briefly looked vulnerable after rookie Omarion Hampton went down with an injury in Week 5, but that concern quickly faded thanks to the breakout performance of Kimani Vidal, who stormed onto the scene and earned a spot among last week's top performers.

Out wide, Ladd McConkey finally found his rhythm, stepping up in a big way with Quentin Johnston sidelined. If Johnston returns, Herbert will have his full array of weapons once again, with Keenan Allen rounding out a formidable receiving corps.

On the defensive front, there's more good news for Los Angeles. Khalil Mack could return from injured reserve, while rookie tackle Joe Alt may also feature—two potential reinforcements who could prove vital against a high-powered Colts offense.

Indianapolis Colts team news

Speaking of Indianapolis, the Colts have been the surprise package of the season. They sit atop the league in scoring, averaging a blistering 32.3 points per game, and have Shane Steichen right in the thick of the Coach of the Year conversation.

Daniel Jones continues to silence critics, looking like a completely different quarterback from his New York days. A big part of that resurgence has been the emergence of rookie tight end Tyler Warren, who's taken the league by storm. The 23-year-old leads the Colts in targets, catches, and receiving yards, an astonishing start to his young career.

And, as always, the engine of Indy's attack remains Jonathan Taylor, who's been nothing short of unstoppable. The star running back leads the entire NFL in rushing yards (603) and rushing touchdowns (7), giving this Colts offense the kind of balance that keeps opposing defenses guessing.

Chargers vs Colts Fantasy Football

Daniel Jones reminded fantasy managers exactly why he belongs in the QB1 conversation last week, finishing as QB4 with 22.5 points, a sharp bounce back after a middling QB17 showing (16.7 points) in Week 5. Ironically, both performances were near carbon copies of each other. In Week 5, he went 20-of-29 for 212 yards and two touchdowns. Fast forward a week, and Jones put up almost identical numbers, 22-of-30 for 212 yards and two scores.

The only blemish this time was a lone interception, but his legs made up for it. Jones added 20 rushing yards and a touchdown, and once again proved that when he finds the end zone on the ground, he’s not just a fringe QB1 — he's a bonafide fantasy difference-maker. All three of his top-10 finishes this year have included a rushing score, underscoring just how vital that dual-threat element is to his ceiling.

Still, it’s worth noting his boom-or-bust nature against tougher opposition. Jones has two marquee matchups under his belt this season, a QB5 finish (22.8 points) versus the Broncos and a QB27 dud (10.4 points) against the Rams. This week's clash falls closer to the latter category.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Taylor is quietly putting together a masterclass of a season in Indianapolis. The Colts' star back leads the league with 603 rushing yards through six games, sitting nearly 70 yards clear of James Cook (537). After back-to-back modest outings (76 and 66 yards), Taylor roared back to life against the Cardinals, hammering them for 123 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown — his third 100-yard game of the year.

The Chargers, however, present a different kind of challenge. They don’t have the same teeth in their pass rush as the Rams, but their zone-heavy defensive scheme tends to neutralize explosive plays. Their discipline has limited opponents to just a 36.4% completion rate on throws beyond 10 yards — third-best in the league — and they've yet to give up multiple passing touchdowns in a single game this season.

For Indianapolis, not everything clicked in their win over Arizona. Michael Pittman Jr. endured a frustrating afternoon, struggling to make an impact through the air. But don’t expect that slump to last. Against a banged-up Chargers secondary, Pittman's volume and route dominance should reappear in full force. He’s been the focal point of the Colts’ passing attack all year, and this matchup screams "bounce-back."

On the other side, Justin Herbert continues to battle adversity — and handle it with class. Despite an offensive line held together by duct tape and injuries to key playmakers, he still managed a respectable QB14 finish (18.8 points) in Week 6. Herbert completed a sharp 76.3% of his passes (29-of-38), relying on quick strikes to offset his lack of downfield options after Quentin Johnston’s injury.

That shift has turned him from a fantasy flamethrower into more of a high-floor QB2, but with another beatable defense coming up, there’s potential for a return to form.

As for Keenan Allen, the veteran wideout has been the Chargers’ rock through the early part of the season — even if the numbers haven’t reflected his consistency lately. A breakout from rookie tight end Oronde Gadsden III siphoned away targets last week, leaving Allen with just 6.7 fantasy points, his lowest total this season.

Still, savvy fantasy managers shouldn't panic. Allen remains the heartbeat of this passing attack, and against an up-and-down Colts secondary, he’s primed to get right back on track. Expect him to remind everyone why he opened the year as one of the most reliable receivers in football.

Chargers vs Colts Game Predictions

For Los Angeles to come out on top, the key will be slowing down Jonathan Taylor's impact in the running game while simultaneously finding ways to disrupt Daniel Jones' timing and comfort in the pocket.

Pulling off both, however, might be a tall order for a Chargers defense that continues to have trouble getting after the quarterback, even with the addition of Odafe Oweh and the potential return of Khalil Mack.

It's a tricky matchup to call, especially with how unpredictable this Chargers team has been week to week, but if forced to pick a side, the safer bet feels like the Colts getting it done.
