Houston Texans vs Tennessee Titans NFL Preview: Team news, betting, tickets, live stream, Fantasy Football and more

The winless Tennessee Titans (0-3) head to NRG Stadium on Sunday for a Week 4 clash with the equally victory-starved Houston Texans.

Tennessee's season has opened with a thud, capped by last week’s 41-20 drubbing at the hands of Indianapolis. Houston isn't faring much better, coming off a 17-10 defeat in Jacksonville that left the Texans still searching for their first mark in the win column.

Neither offense has exactly set the league on fire, but Houston's defense gives it the upper hand over Tennessee. Through three weeks, the Texans have surrendered a stingy 17 points per game, impressive for a team still hunting its first win.

Sure, they're 0-3, but those losses have all been nail-biters against respectable foes. The real issue is the other side of the ball, where Houston is averaging a meagre 12.7 points, which won’t win many shootouts.

Tennessee hasn’t been nearly as competitive. The Titans have been outclassed every Sunday so far, dropping all three games by at least a touchdown. Right now, Houston might be winless, but it’s clearly the more battle-tested and resilient squad compared to a Titans team still searching for answers.

Could Week 4 be the launch pad the Texans need to get this season off the ground, finally?

Houston Texans team news

The most notable absence for Houston in Wednesday’s practice was Derek Stingley Jr., who sat out after suffering an abdominal injury in the second quarter against Jacksonville and missing the entire second half. If he can't suit up against Tennessee, the Texans will have to roll with Kamari Lassiter and Tremon Smith as the primary corners, with Jalen Pitre sliding into the nickel. On the offensive side, Nico Collins was limited, but there doesn’t appear to be any real concern about his availability for Sunday.

Much of the spotlight, and criticism, has fallen on offensive coordinator Nick Caley for the unit's lack of rhythm. But in truth, his hands are tied by a patchwork offensive line built by GM Nick Caserio. C.J. Stroud hasn’t looked comfortable at all, rattled by constant heat in the pocket and misfiring on throws he normally nails with ease. The ground game hasn’t bailed him out either. Nick Chubb still has juice, but he’s running into brick walls. That's why giving rookie Woody Marks more touches, with his tackle-breaking and space playmaking, could be a smart pivot.

Tennessee Titans team news

The Titans added Cam Ward to the midweek injury report with ankle and calf soreness. While he didn't log a full session, he was a limited participant, a positive sign for his chances of suiting up. Per Ian Rapoport, there's no concern this will linger long-term, and Ward himself downplayed the issue when meeting with reporters, sounding confident he’ll be ready.

If Ward does take the field, Tennessee will need to strike a balance between letting him cut loose and protecting him from aggravation. His legs and ability to push the ball downfield are vital to unlocking Nick Hardegree's offense, and a clean performance could be the spark that ends their skid.

Elsewhere, JC Latham was held out again, and Brian Callahan offered no real update — it'd be a surprise if he's active this week. Kalel Mullings and Bryce Oliver also sat out. On a brighter note, Kevin Winston Jr. and Kevin Zeitler were both limited; Zeitler’s return looks realistic after missing last week, while Winston's lingering absence raises questions about why IR wasn't considered sooner.

Texans vs Titans Fantasy Football

The vibes around Cam Ward (12.8 projected W4 fpts) are cautiously optimistic heading into Week 4. All signs point to him suiting up unless something goes sideways in practice. The Titans aren't about to gamble with his health if things take a turn, but for now there's no reason to panic. And make no mistake—Ward's availability is the domino that could define Tennessee's chase for that elusive first win.

His stat line through three games (506 yards, two touchdowns, 54.5% completion rate) is underwhelming, but the fact he's even giving them a chance underscores how important he is. With quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree taking over play-calling from Brian Callahan, maybe a fresh hand on the wheel helps unlock something.

Tony Pollard has been the workhorse this team wanted—90% snap share, 84% of the carries, sixth-most rushing attempts in the league. The problem? Those touches aren’t turning into production. Some of that’s on Pollard, but let’s not ignore the obvious: the quarterback play has been scattershot and the offensive line has been brutal. PFF pegs them 25th in run blocking, which is practically an open invitation for defenders to clog the lanes.

Then there's Calvin Ridley, once a hyped mid-round sleeper who's quickly slipping into fantasy bust territory. Not only has he been invisible compared to expectations, but rookie Elic Ayomanor is flat-out outproducing him—10 catches to 8, and a higher targets-per-route rate (20% vs. 19%). It’s hard to sugarcoat that. Ridley’s also been tethered to the outside on 82% of his snaps thanks to Tyler Lockett owning the slot, which leaves him staring down Derek Stingley Jr. this week. Pair that with the league’s 31st-ranked passing attack, and you’re not looking at a recipe for redemption.

As for C.J. Stroud, it's been a bumpy opening stretch. He's wrapped up Weeks 1–3 as QB26, QB22, and QB27, numbers that scream "stay on your bench." He's hitting 64% of his throws (20th), averaging 6.7 yards per attempt (15th), with just two scores against three picks. The one silver lining? He's using his legs, clearing 20 rushing yards in every outing. That keeps the floor from bottoming out entirely, but let's be real—until the passing game takes a leap, Stroud is firmly stuck in QB2 purgatory.

Texans vs Titans Game Predictions

Oddsmakers clearly favors Houston, and it's easy to see why. Through three weeks, Tennessee has been on the wrong end of a 94–51 scoring gap, while the Texans have managed to hang tough against stiffer competition, keeping games within striking distance. C.J. Stroud is stretching the field with confidence, and Houston’s pass rush is making life miserable for opposing quarterbacks, both signs they’re built to set the tempo at home.

From this seat, unless Tony Pollard breaks loose early and the Titans' aerial attack suddenly catches fire, Tennessee is staring at another steep uphill climb. My call: Houston controls this one and pulls away late, something like a 28–17 Texans win.
