Atlanta Falcons vs Washington Commanders NFL Preview: Team news, betting, tickets, live stream, Fantasy Football and more

The Atlanta Falcons return to Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday afternoon for a clash with the Washington Commanders.

Week 3 was nothing short of a disaster for Atlanta, who entered as six-point road favorites yet were blanked 30-0 by a divisional foe, slipping to 1-2 on the year.

Washington, meanwhile, looked sharp coming off extra rest, cruising past Las Vegas in a 41-point outburst despite missing Jayden Daniels.

The big question now — can the Falcons regroup on home turf, or will the Commanders keep their momentum rolling?

Atlanta Falcons team news

A slew of Falcons players were limited in Wednesday’s practice, including Kyle Pitts (toe), James Pearce Jr. (groin), and Casey Washington (concussion), all still working through lingering issues. Head coach Raheem Morris confirmed that A.J. Terrell (hamstring) remains “week-to-week,” though he’s hopeful the starting corner can return after the Week 5 bye. Terrell didn’t take part in Week 4’s first practice.

There was some good news: Darnell Mooney didn’t appear on the team’s injury report, marking the first time all season he’s cleared that hurdle after missing training camp with a shoulder injury.

Last week’s 30-0 blowout loss to Carolina was a nightmare. Michael Penix struggled to find any rhythm, throwing two picks on 18-of-36 passing for just 172 yards. On the ground, Bijan Robinson carried the load with 72 yards on 13 touches, while Drake London (55 yards) and Mooney (44 yards) were the only bright spots through the air.

Offensively, Jake Matthews and left guard Matthew Bergeron shined in the run game, with Matthews holding the edge like a rock. Rookie safety Xavier Watts was a tackling machine, racking up nine stops and showing he’s quickly becoming a force in both the box and open field.

Washington Commanders team news

Mariota stepped in seamlessly for the injured Jayden Daniels, guiding the Commanders to a 41-24 win over Las Vegas. The Commanders had little trouble handling business against the Raiders last Sunday, piling up 27 points across the middle two quarters on their way to a 41-24 victory. Mariota was sharp, throwing for 207 yards and a touchdown on 15-of-21 passing while also adding a score with his legs.

Jeremy McNichols chipped in a big-play performance on the ground with 78 yards and a touchdown on just four carries, and Terry McLaurin led the receiving corps with 74 yards on three grabs.

Daniels, last season's Offensive Rookie of the Year, has stumbled out of the gates, completing just under 60 percent of his throws with a 6.0-yard average per attempt, a 90.8 passer rating, and a 39.0 QBR. Mariota, by comparison, looked crisp in his lone start—71.4 percent completions, 9.9 yards per attempt, and a sparkling 118.6 rating.

Although Mariota did well last time out, he's not Daniels, and Dan Quinn knows a road test in Atlanta won't be the same as beating the Raiders. The Commanders' coach has made it clear he wants his young quarterback back on the field the moment he's cleared to go.

Falcons vs Commanders Fantasy Football

The Falcons may be staring down a brewing quarterback debate after Kirk Cousins saw action in Week 3, but head coach Raheem Morris quickly shut down any speculation, reaffirming that Michael Penix Jr. (15.5 projected W4 fpts) remains his starter. Regardless of who's under center, this Atlanta offense will continue to run through Bijan Robinson (17.0 projected W4 fpts).

The star back was a workhorse in 2024, finishing third in the league in rushing with 1,456 yards and 14 touchdowns, while also adding 431 receiving yards on 61 catches—nearly eclipsing the 2,000-yard mark from scrimmage. His 2025 campaign, however, has been a mixed bag: a monster 143-yard outing against Minnesota sandwiched between a quiet opener (24 yards on 12 carries) and a more modest 72 yards on 13 attempts last week in Carolina.

Washington's run defense has been solid of late, holding Ashton Jeanty to 63 yards on 17 carries and limiting Josh Jacobs to an inefficient 84 yards on 23 attempts.

Even if Washington opts to be cautious with Jayden Daniels for another week, Kliff Kingsbury's scheme looks more than capable of keeping Atlanta’s defense on its heels. Marcus Mariota stepped in seamlessly against Las Vegas, guiding the Commanders to a decisive victory.

One concern, though, is the health of Terry McLaurin, who exited Sunday's game after a 57-yard touchdown was ruled down at the 1-yard line. He was sidelined the rest of the way with a quad issue. In his absence, Luke McCaffrey and Jaylin Lane saw expanded opportunities, with McCaffrey finding the end zone. Should McLaurin remain out, McCaffrey could emerge as a sneaky deep-league fantasy option.

Falcons vs Commanders Game Predictions

The big storyline heading into Sunday is whether Jayden Daniels will be under center for Washington — but the real question might be, does it even matter? Marcus Mariota stepped in seamlessly during Week 3, guiding the Commanders to a convincing win over the Raiders.

On the flip side, Atlanta’s offense looked completely lifeless, failing to put a single point on the board against division rival Carolina.

According to ESPN’s projections, the Falcons have just a 40.5% chance to pull off the victory in Week 4, with the rest of the probability leaning toward Washington — and a slim slice reserved for a tie.
