Cleveland Browns vs Minnesota Vikings NFL Preview: Team news, betting, tickets, live stream, Fantasy Football and more

Week 5 features a clash between two teams still searching for their footing, as the Cleveland Browns head to London to face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Cleveland limps into the matchup at 1-3, a record that could easily be winless if not for their dramatic rally against the Green Bay Packers. In a surprising shake-up, the Browns announced that veteran Joe Flacco would be sidelined, handing the reins to rookie third-round pick Gabriel, who will now steer the offense against Minnesota.

The Vikings arrive in London after a narrow 24-21 defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers in their first of back-to-back international games. With tough matchups looming against the Eagles, Chargers, and Lions, this contest takes on added importance. Carson Wentz will make his third consecutive start in place of the injured J.J. McCarthy, sitting at 1-1 since assuming the QB1 role.

Cleveland Browns team news

The quarterback carousel continues to frustrate fans. After a shaky 1-3 start, Joe Flacco hasn't shown the magic that led the Browns to the playoffs in 2023. Rookie backups have been waiting in the wings, with Dillon Gabriel now stepping in after posting a promising preseason (25 of 37 for 272 yards, 7.4 Y/A, 1 TD, 1 INT). Gabriel is undersized at 5-foot-11 and 205 pounds and struggled with deep targets and big-time throws in college, but the Browns will lean on him to make timing-based passes, including curls, slants, and outside breaks, and he isn't afraid to attack the middle of the field where Harold Fannin Jr., Jamari Thrash, and Jerry Jeudy could see targets.

Running back Quinshon Judkins continues to be a focal point, as Cleveland leans on the ground game to ease pressure on Gabriel. Injuries remain a concern for the Browns’ skill and line units: WR DeAndre Carter has been listed as out with knee issue, while WR Cedric Tillman (hamstring),LT Jack Conklin (elbow), DT Mike Hall Jr. (knee) are  all on the questionable list.

Minnesota Vikings team news

The Minnesota Vikings’ defense, orchestrated by Brian Flores, has quickly become one of the league’s most menacing units. Known for turning up the heat on opposing quarterbacks, Flores has dialed up the blitz in 37.4% of plays this season—third-highest in the NFL. The Vikings have racked up 11 sacks already and boast one of the stingiest pass defenses in the league, allowing just 151.5 passing yards per game (third-fewest), 5.2 yards per attempt (ninth-fewest), and only three passing touchdowns (third-fewest).

Carson Wentz has been productive despite the pressure, completing 66.7% of his passes for 523 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. Justin Jefferson and T.J. Hockenson have combined for 441 receiving yards and two scores, while Jordan Addison has chipped in with four catches.

Injury concerns loom large for the Vikings this week. Head Coach Kevin O’Connell confirmed that T Brian O'Neill suffered an MCL sprain and will be week-to-week, though he won’t be placed on IR. OLB Andrew Van Ginkel is out of practice with a neck issue, and the team hopes QB J.J. McCarthy can get some work in later this week.

Browns vs Vikings Fantasy Football

Carson Wentz's (14.1 projected W5 fpts) performance last week was far from picture-perfect under a traditional football lens, but from a fantasy standpoint, he delivered. Wentz finished as QB9 with 21.2 fantasy points, completing 30 of 46 passes (65.2%) for 350 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also added 12 yards on the ground. While Kevin O’Connell has a history of squeezing production out of veteran quarterbacks, Wentz feels more like a QB2 this week than a true top-tier option.

The offensive line has been a major concern—Wentz was sacked six times and hit 14 more. Minnesota was already missing Donovan Jackson and then lost Ryan Kelly to his second concussion in three weeks, while Brian O'Neill is sidelined with an MCL injury. Jordan Mason carried 19 touches for 72 yards against Pittsburgh, seeing 70.4% of the backfield workload (RB17 in Week 4), but Zavier Scott chipped into the late-game work.

Justin Jefferson (11.7 projected W5 fpts) had a monster outing in Dublin, hauling in 10 of 11 targets for 126 yards. He's commanded 35% and 26.2% of Wentz’s targets over the past two weeks and remains a clear WR1 thanks to talent and volume—but this week’s matchup is trickier. The Cleveland defense is aggressive, and the battered offensive line could limit ceiling production. T.J. Hockenson caught 4 of 5 targets for 39 yards on Sunday, still struggling to hit 50 yards per game, leaving him in that fringe TE1 range where touchdowns dictate fantasy value.

For Cleveland, the switch to Dillon Gabriel as starter in London comes after Joe Flacco posted a season-low 47.1% completion rate and two interceptions against Detroit. Gabriel has only brief in-game experience, going 3 of 4 for 19 yards and a touchdown in garbage time, but showed promise in the preseason (25 of 37, 272 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT). He’s a back-end QB2 this week.

In the Browns’ backfield, Quinshon Judkins (12 projected W5 fpts) continues to dominate touches, logging 25 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown last week. He’s handled a massive share of snaps since joining Cleveland, though more routes in the 45–50% range would stabilize his RB2 fantasy floor. Jordan Addison is back in action, catching 4 of 8 targets for 114 yards, slotting in as a boom-or-bust WR3/FLEX. David Njoku has barely contributed, with a high-water mark of TE15 through three games, making him a low-upside TE2 option.

Browns vs Vikings Game Predictions

The Minnesota Vikings were taken for a spin last week, as Pittsburgh dominated in Ireland, while Detroit ran roughshod over Cleveland 34-20. This upcoming clash features the lowest total of the season, setting up an intriguing under-the-radar showdown.

Cleveland's defense is stingy, allowing just 4.1 yards per play, while the Vikings sit among the league leaders in sack rate, third-down stops, and yards per drive (22.6). Expect Dillon Gabriel and Carson Wentz to each cough up at least one interception, making turnovers a key factor in deciding the winner. In a close contest, the playmaking ability of Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson should be enough to tilt the game in Minnesota's favor.
