    WHAT HAPPENED?

Mokoena was literally Bafana Bafana's engine at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals, playing a vital role in helping the team finish third.

The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder played all seven matches for South Africa, scoring two goals and providing an assist in the process.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After his displays, Mokoena was named in the tournament's best XI alongside his captain Ronwen Williams - who was the competition's best keeper.

It explains why the 2022/23 Premier Soccer League's Footballer of the Season has been linked with a move away from Sundowns.

Premier League side AFC Bournemouth and most recently Al Ahly, have been linked with the combative midfielder.

However, his agent Binkin has denied the rumours linking him with Al Ahly, especially after a letter inviting Mokoena for trials cropped up on social media.

    WHAT BINKIN SAID

"Nonsense and absolutely rubbish! Nothing in the article is true. Nothing at all; I would be very surprised if it even came from Al Ahly, and with all due respect, why would Teboho Mokoena even go on trials anywhere? It is fake news without any substance," the respected agent told iDiski Times.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MOKOENA?

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has claimed some of the players have attracted strong interest from abroad after their Afcon showings.

However, be rest assured that Sundowns will not be letting their stars leave with coach Rhulani Mokwena insisting none of his star players will be sold meaning Mokoena's chances of leaving are almost zero.
