Earps was named Sportswomen of the Year at the British Sports Journalism Awards in London on Thursday night, beating heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson and England cricket star Tammy Beaumont to the prize. It was the latest individual award for the Lionesses' shot-stopper in what's been a stellar year.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Earps' performances during England's epic run to the World Cup final this summer saw her named the tournament's Golden Glove winner. The gongs just kept coming after that with the goalkeeper scooping the Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year and the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year, those in addition to The Best FIFA Women's Goalkeeper prize Earps picked up in February.

    DID YOU KNOW?

Earps has become a global star who can sell out shirts immediately but her remarkable spell of success seemed unthinkable just three years ago when previous England boss Phil Neville cast her aside, leaving her contemplating retirement. Sarina Wiegman's appointment in 2021 resurrected Earps' international career and both have reaped the rewards from the goalkeeper's renewed confidence.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR MARY EARPS?

While individual honours continue to pile up, it's been a disappointing week on the field after England narrowly missed out on winning their Nations League group which would have also clinched Great Britain's qualification for next summer's Olympics in Paris. Earps will look to put that behind her when her United side take on Tottenham on Sunday.
