Marseille forward Mason Greenwood asks not to be quizzed on past domestic violence case in first sit-down interview since transfer from Man Utd

The 23-year-old forward completed a £27 million ($34m) transfer to Stade Velodrome during the summer of 2024, as he severed ties with Premier League side Manchester United. His last appearance for the Red Devils had come in January 2022.

That is because Greenwood was arrested that month before being released on bail. All charges in a case relating to allegations of attempted rape, assault and coercive and controlling behaviour were dropped in February 2023.

With there no way back for the one-cap England international, who is preparing to switch allegiance to Jamaica, at Old Trafford he was allowed to spend the 2023-24 campaign on loan at La Liga outfit Getafe – where he scored 10 goals and won the club’s Player of the Year award.

He has found the target on 13 occasions for Marseille this term, being named Ligue 1 Player of the Month for December, and is attracting plenty of attention. Telefoot have, however, revealed that Greenwood asked not to be quizzed on prior events in his private life when sitting down to discuss professional matters.

Greenwood did say of his move to Marseille: “I had goosebumps during my first match at the Velodrome. It's exceptional. They sing for 90 minutes straight, I've never seen that before.” He has been giving fans plenty to shout about in 2024-25.
