Marcus Rashford's Barcelona dream over? Man Utd outcast sweating on transfer as Nico Williams pursuit potentially scuppers plans - could return to Red Devils for pre-season

According to a report from The Times, Rashford could return to Carrington and join his Manchester United team-mates for pre-season duties if a move to Barcelona - or elsewhere - fails to materialise.

Rashford is awaiting clarity from the Blaugrana amid their pursuit of Athletic Club winger Williams progressing significantly. The Spanish champions are in advanced talks with the 22-year-old and have already reached a personal agreement on a six-year deal. Williams - who shares Rashford's preferred position on the left wing - has taken an active role in pushing for the transfer, even acting as an intermediary between the clubs.

Despite the crossover in roles, the England international remains hopeful of a switch to Camp Nou, given his versatility to play across the frontline. United are open to selling the 27-year-old for around £40 million (€47m/$54m), following his loan spell at Aston Villa. A move abroad may be more likely, with Inter, Juventus, and Bayern Munich also linked, although Newcastle United have also been rumoured to be interested in the forward.

The United academy graduate, who has been training in Marbella during his holiday, will return to Carrington if no transfer is secured. However, tensions with the Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim persist and the head coach is reportedly prepared to banish Rashford and three others from the pre-season first-team squad. The attacker is said to be ready to accept a huge pay cut if it means he can get a chance to play under Hansi Flick. His future is far from resolved, and it's unlikely his new destination will be decided anytime soon.
