  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Rashford has faced criticism for his recent dip in form and was even excluded from England’s Nations League squad by Lee Carsley. However, making the most of the time off, the forward flew across the Atlantic to watch the New York Knicks clinch a narrow 124-122 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Friday evening.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

As he exited Madison Square Garden with his entourage, escorted by police to a waiting vehicle, a fan quipped: “Why don’t we get you to Crystal Palace?”

It's not clear whether the fan was a United supporter upset with Rashford's efforts and eager to see him moved on, or a Palace fan hoping he would pop up at Selhurst Park.

Social media also erupted with backlash, as some viewed his trip as a lack of commitment to addressing his underwhelming performances for Manchester United. In what appeared to be a damage control measure to the online negativity, Rashford posted a photo of himself on Instagram, working out in a gym.

    WHAT NEXT FOR RASHFORD?

After an outstanding 2022-23 campaign where he scored 30 goals across all competitions, he has failed to replicate that form. In fact, during the entire Old Trafford career, his Premier League tally has exceeded 10 goals in only four seasons, and his output has fallen drastically this campaign, with just four goals in 18 appearances in all competitions.

Rashford’s opportunity to silence his critics will come soon, as Manchester United are set to face Ipswich Town on November 24 in their first Premier League match under new manager Ruben Amorim, who signed a contract with the club until 2027.
