Leah Williamson injury boost! Arsenal boss gives promising update on Lionesses star ahead of crunch WSL clash with rivals Tottenham

Williamson picked up a 'minor' hamstring problem ahead of the win over Manchester United last month, missing that fixture and the international break with England as a result. However, Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall says she is "progressing well" and is "in contention" to play in the north London derby, with there also positive news regarding the availability of Katie McCabe and Victoria Pelova, the latter of whom had to leave the Netherlands camp early this week because of a problem.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Eidevall said of Williamson: "She is progressing really well. It’s a muscle injury so we need to be cautious and take every step but she is progressing well and she is very much in contention for Sunday.

"[Pelova is] very much in the same position as Leah Williamson, that she’s progressing really well and is very much in contention for Sunday. Katie McCabe is also progressing well and she’s also very much in contention for Sunday," he added.

There was bad news too, though. Star forward Vivianne Miedema requires "minor knee surgery" just four months after returning from an ACL rupture and will be out for "several weeks". Sunday's game also comes "too early" for Amanda Ilestedt, who has been struggling with illness lately and there is no "clarity" on Lina Hurtig's back injury, either, with her season "potentially" over.

As well as those injury absentees, Arsenal are without Sabrina D'Angelo, Cloe Lacasse and Emily Fox this weekend as the trio are playing for their countries at the CONCACAF W Gold Cup. Canada pair D'Angelo and Lacasse are preparing for a quarter-final clash with Costa Rica this weekend while Fox and the United States women's national team will take on Colombia in the last eight.

Spurs secured a first-ever win over Arsenal when these two met at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December. Not only will the Gunners be looking to keep up the pressure in the title race with a win on Sunday then, they'll also be out for revenge.
