Harry Maguire's Euro 2024 in danger! Man Utd defender facing axe from Gareth Southgate's final squad as fitness doubts grow

Maguire is facing a battle to prove his fitness before manager Gareth Southgate names his final squad for Euro 2024. The Manchester United defender is struggling with a muscle injury and missed training ahead of England's final pre-Euro 2024 friendly against Iceland. There are now growing fears within the squad the injury may prevent him from taking his place on the plane to Germany, according to The Telegraph.

Maguire's injury also forced him to miss Manchester United's 2-1 FA Cup final win over Manchester City but it had been expected he would recover in time for the Euros. However, Maguire sat out Monday's win over Bosnia and now looks set to skip Friday's clash with Iceland. If he is ruled out of the tournament, Southgate would be short of options in central defence. Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi would likely come into the team and partner John Stones in the heart of the England backline.

England have already confirmed that James Maddison and Curtis Jones have been released from Southgate's provisional squad. The manager must cut five more players from his list before England fly out to Germany.

Southgate's side face Iceland in a final friendly before the England coach submits his final squad to UEFA by midnight on Friday, June 7.
