Harry Kane issues strong response to 'sh*t' England criticism from Gary Lineker as he reminds former Three Lions striker-turned-pundit of his 'responsibility'

Lineker embarked on a rant criticising the Three Lions and Kane himself after they struggled to get going in the Euro 2024 match against Denmark. England were lucky to get away with a point in the Group C clash and the former striker-turned-pundit said Kane and his team-mates have not been good enough so far this summer, ultimately describing the national team as "sh*t".

Bayern Munich striker Kane had his say during a press conference ahead of England's final group game against Slovenia. He said: "I'd never want to be disrespectful to any player, especially, you know, a player who's worn the shirt and knows what it's like to play for England. I always feel like [former players and pundits] have a responsibility. I know they've got to be honest and give their opinion, but also they have a responsibility of being an ex-England player.

"The bottom line is, we haven't won anything as a nation for a long, long time. And, you know, a lot of these ex-players were part of that as well... they do know that it's tough to play in these major tournaments. It's tough to play for England."

It may not have been received very well by the players, but former England frontman Lineker is not far away with the comments he made. Even the 1-0 win against Serbia on matchday one was uninspiring and having entered the tournament as one of the favourites, people were expecting more from the Euro 2020 finalists.

Kane has the chance to silence his doubters when England play Slovenia on Tuesday evening. A win will send them through at the top of their group and the Three Lions skipper will be keen to add to his goal tally after bagging his side's only goal against Denmark.
