WHAT HAPPENED?
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner started out on the books at Newell’s in his native Rosario before embarking on a remarkable adventure in Europe with Barcelona. Messi is now in the United States after heading for Florida as a free agent when his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expired.

Messi has helped Inter Miami to a historic Leagues Cup triumph in 2023, but they have missed out on a place in the MLS play-offs. A lengthy break will be taken in before the 2024 MLS season gets underway, but Miami have already organised two friendly dates with Qingdao Hainiu and Chengdu Rongcheng during a trip to China in November.

It is now being reported by TyC Sports that Inter Miami will also look to face Newell’s Old Boys in February – with that contest set to take place at DRV PNK Stadium. Messi will be reunited with the club that helped to put him on a path to superstardom, while Tata Martino will also be locking horns with some familiar faces.
