    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Young Daniele had been ill for some time but had enjoyed spending time with the Napoli team. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa had even dedicated goals to Daniele and his loss has clearly had a big affect on Conte and the Napoli dressing room. Conte felt unable to attend the post-match press conference after hearing the news, with his assistant Cristian Stellini taking over his duties and explaining the situation.

  • WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

A tearful Stellini told reporters: "We're happy with the victory but we've received a bad blow by losing a person close to all of Napoli. A little child who left us this afternoon, he was ill, we tried to give him moments of joy, he gave us so much strength and energy. The coach didn't feel like coming at this difficult time, our thoughts go to him and his family, as well as to all the children who suffer from these terrible diseases."

Napoli full-back Leonardo Spinazzola added: "On behalf of the team we want to send a big hug to Daniele's family, from today he will watch over us from up there, we will miss him a lot, he has taught us so much."

  • TRIBUTE TO DANIELE

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis also paid a tribute to Daniele on X: "Dear Daniele, you gave us months of joy by being close to us. Despite your illness, you transmitted strength, courage and joy. We dedicate the victory to you and we know that from up there you will continue to follow us with the love you have shown us. You will remain forever in our hearts."
