Real Madrid back Kylian Mbappe over Stockholm hotel rape allegation with claim considered 'biggest fake in history of sport' - as promotional image omission is explained

Swedish authorities are investigating an official complaint of a suspected rape that occurred in the hotel Mbappe was staying in last week. The media in the Scandinavian country have since reported that the Real Madrid star is the suspect in the case.

Mbappe has dismissed the allegations as "fake news" while his lawyer said that he is "flabbergasted" by the reports. Madrid are offering their support to the 25-year-old, with a report from AFP saying the club view accusations as "the biggest fake in the history of sport".

Amid the shocking allegations, Madrid edited Mbappe out of a promotional image for adidas, which was revealed after Jude Bellingham mistakenly shared the original pictures which included his team-mate. The confusion sparked claims Mbappe's removal was due to the allegations, but Madrid insist it was because the Frenchman is an ambassador for adidas' main competitors Nike.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star will hope to put the drama out of his mind when Madrid return to La Liga action against Celta on Saturday, which will be followed by a Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund three days later.
