<p>Eddie Howe has been trying to put a positive spin on Newcastle’s 5-1 defeat at Tottenham, with the Magpies boss hoping that a heavy defeat delivers a wake-up call to some of those on his books.</p><p>He has told <em>Sky Sports</em>: “We contributed to that [score]. We were 1-0 up and executing a good plan. We were controlling them as best we could. We did the first part of the game well. The second goal is the key thing.</p><p>“It’s what we didn’t need to do. We chased the game in a way you can’t against this time of team. We took risks and didn’t execute it well enough. Against these teams you have to get every aspect of your game right. In the second half we didn’t.</p><p>“They have players who can hurt you. Some of their football will be the highest level. It’s something we’ll have to learn from.</p><p>“I don’t think [it will damage] morale. In hindsight we might look back on this as a good thing. It might realign our thoughts and get us back to the basics.”</p>

<p>Frank Lampard is being left to reflect on another defeat for relegation-haunted Everton, but he remains confident that luck will turn for the Toffees at some stage.</p><p>He has told <em>Sky Sports</em>: “Disappointment because we deserved at least a point from the game. At 1-1 I fancied us to score a second. There's a mistake and they break away and score. It drops to them. The first goal is a free-kick in the top corner.</p><p>“The reality is that we are in that kind of moment where everything is going against us - decisions, moments in games, red cards. <p>David Moyes was delighted to see his West Ham side prepare for a Europa League clash with Lyon by edging out Everton, with Aaron Cresswell coming good from a free-kick in a 2-1 victory.</p><p>Moyes has told <em>Sky Sports</em>: "We give him a lot of stick [Aaron Cresswell] because he practices free-kicks so much and has not had many goals. He has had a lot of assists in other ways. It was a real good free-kick today.</p><p>"It was a really good win and I thought the players did a really good job. <p>Mason Holgate lined up in a midfield role for Everton against West Ham, and helped himself to a fine goal, but the Toffees suffered a 2-1 defeat and remain in serious trouble.</p><p>Holgate has told <em>Sky Sports</em> of those struggles: “We don't know who will win the league yet but it seems like everyone knows Everton is going to get relegated.</p><p>"Even if we prove them wrong it will go down as a disappointing season for ourselves. FT: Atalanta 1-3 Napoli

<p>There's the final whistle, West Ham see off Everton at the London Stadium and the Toffees are sinking fast. A fantastic free kick from Aaron Cresswell gave the Hammers the lead, but Mason Holgate pulled one back straight after the restart. However, Jarrod Bowen restored West Ham's lead and then things deteriorated even further for Everton as Michael Keane was sent off.</p>

<p>Aaron Cresswell's sensational free kick is the difference between West Ham and Everton. The curled set-piece left Jordan Pickford with no chance and the Toffees were left rattled. David Moyes' side cranked things up a gear after that, with Michail Antonio causing havoc in the box, but Frank Lampard's men weathered the storm.
