Getty ImagesTHE BIGGER PICTURE
A significant factor in the transfer saga is Zubimendi’s apparent inclination towards the Premier League. The report suggests he was uninterested in joining Barcelona during the summer, partly due to his desire to explore opportunities in England’s top flight. This preference for the Premier League strengthens Liverpool and City’s position in the race. Both clubs are reportedly keen on the Euro 2024 winner, with City boss Pep Guardiola said to view Zubimendi as a long-term replacement for 28-year-old Rodri.
Getty Images SportWHAT NEXT FOR ZUBIMENDI?
The fight for Zubimendi’s signature is expected to intensify and Madrid will need to act swiftly if they wish to compete with Liverpool and City, who hold a significant advantage due to the player’s Premier League aspirations. In the short term, he will be back in action after the winter break against Ponferradina in the Copa del Rey.
